Three Wild Rides through the Night: Part III - December 04, 2001 - by Windebieste

"Everybody loves a carnival. The unforgettable sights, the smell of popcorn and the joyful bubbling sound of the crowd mixed with the loud cries of the Barker calling for attention to particular attractions of interest. There is usually livestock on show, cake-judging events and of course, the rides. Always popular are the Ferris Wheel, the Roller Coaster and the Ghost Train."

America at War - September 16, 2001 - by Matt Pruitt

"As the usual employees and visitors of the World Trade Center started their day off as they always have, sitting down at their desk, looking at the pictures of their family and friends, and doing everything that would take place any other day. The factor they did not know, is that September 11, 2001 - would not be an ordinary day. Their lives, as well as the people on the plane, were abruptly interrupted and shattered as an airliner struck the first tower, ripping a massive hole in it, as well as an emotional hole in the heart of the United States citizens."

Three Wild Rides through the Night: Part II - November 28, 2001 - by Windebieste

"For Centuries, the Yautja have been visiting our World for purposes of Sport and Initiation. They come in solitary pursuit of worthy opponents as part of a cultural ritual that makes this race amongst the most fearsome adversaries anywhere in the known Galaxy. These Predators, as they are more widely known to us, hail from a distant and unknown planet but to them, and their superior technology, traversing the endless black distances between the stars is no challenge."

Three Wild Rides through the Night: Part I - November 14, 2001 - by Windebieste

"Before recorded history, Mankind's relationship with the dark, and the things that may lurk just beyond the realm of our ability to perceive them, has been one combined of fear and fascination. The darkness is the spawning ground where our nightmares breed, and where the savage predators act out their nocturnal pursuits in search of prey. So it has always been, people have fended off the denizens of the darkness. In ancient times the spear and the bow kept the big cats and wolves at bay."

AvP II Cheating - November 17, 2001 - by Tony Volk

"You've been a ravaging alien, or deadly predator or a mean marine. You've had a few deaths, but mostly, you've been fraggin' like mad. A new opponent enters. He kills you. Good, a worthy opponent. He kills you again- a very worthy opponent! Third round, you have him dead to rights. You've snuck up behind him and unleash your fury. Only somehow, he survives! Worse, he kills you! Soon, you start dying even when behind walls, when jumping, when cloaked, etc. okay, this is not a worthy opponent."

Mod-O'-Rama! Ten Hot Mod Ideas for AvP2 - November 14, 2001 - by Windebieste

"We can expect from Monolith is for the tools and source code for the game to be released so that the AvP2 Mod making community can fire up and get cracking with creating their own Mods. Certainly we can expect a gush of new maps, player/non-player skins and other fine game embellishments we have seen for original AvP. What the new game will deliver to us, however, can only be guessed at..."

Weapons of the USCMC - November 13, 2001 - by Michael Kupari

"The rifle is the basic weapon of the soldier. In the movie, the Pulse Rifle was constructed by dressing up a .45 caliber M1 Thompson Submachine Gun and attaching a pump action 12 Gauge Remington 870 shotgun under the barrel, to form the pump grenade launcher. The design of the M41 makes sense; the underbarrel grenade launcher is similar to the current 40mm M203."

Goodbye to an Old Friend? - November 06, 2001 - by Windebieste

"Aliens vs. Predator 2 is upon us, and with its arrival comes the question: What will happen to the original AvP? Will people still play the older game, or will the fans embrace the new title wholeheartedly and discard the aging favourite like an old sock with too many holes worn through?"

AvP II Game Modification Ideas - November 05, 2001 - by Phil Hickerson

"Though no tools have been yet released for AvP2, here are some (hopefully) realistic ideas I have for improvements to the game when they do. These address issues myself and some others have with the game."

Aliens vs. Predator II - November 03, 2001 - by Phil Hickerson

"I will tell you outright- I have waited for this game since the first day I played the original Alien versus Predator that was developed by Rebellion Software in 1999 - . Why would I be anticipating a sequel to a game the first time I played it, you ask? Because for as neat as AvP was, it was chock-full of issues."

AvP II: A New Age of Modded Bliss - October 30, 2001 - by Windebieste

"Like most other fans of the original Aliens vs. Predator game, the Planet AvP staff are pretty excited about the release of the new title. To all of us it means a breathe of new life for our fannish gaming joys and a new opportunity to play as some of the meanest movie monsters ever to be depicted in a computer game."

StarShip Troopers: Roughneck Chronicles - October 23, 2001 - by Tony Volk

"What's this on your TV?!? Pulse rifles blasting, bits of bugs flying everywhere, drop ships flaring descents, motion trackers pulsing! A typical USCM assault? Nope. This is Starship Troopers, the Roughneck Chronicles (RC) to be precise. What the heck are is the Roughneck Chronicles? RC is a fabulous animated TV series that highlights some of the best CGI I've ever seen, big screen or not."

Ten 10: First Things to do with AvP2 - October 09, 2001 - by Praetor

"AvP II will be hitting the shelves within a few weeks. The entire world, no doubt, will want a copy of this game so it will be a matter of who can shove the hardest to see who gets a copy. So when you get home and take off the plastic wrap, what comes next? What are the first ten things you'll do when you get AvP2?"

AvP II Puts Up Their Duke's - October 04, 2001 - by Windebieste

"Aliens vs. Predator 2 is coming. That's a fact. It will be released sometime before Christmas. That's a fact, too. Also of note are a number of other First Person Shooters vying for my (and your) attention. But what do these games have to offer to attract me away from the second Aliens Versus Predator title and can they sustain my attention? Will I be playing AvP2 or will Return to Castle Wolfenstein take over as a favourite title?"

Press Any Key to Continue - October 03, 2001 - by Praetor

"When the original Aliens Vs Predator was released for the PC, many fans were disappointed to see that they were not able to save the game during each mission. Most people were accustomed to having unlimited saves during the game as in the more popular hits at the time. One thing that made saving the game unnecessary was the short length of each mission."

Anticipation Versus Patience - September 25, 2001 - by Windebieste

"The time is drawing near for the release of Aliens Versus Predator 2, the sequel to the movie based crossover game Aliens versus Predator released in 1999 - by Fox Interactive. The sequel promises to improve on the original game in every department with improved graphics, new game engine, a greater variety of character classes and a whole new range of Multi player options to run amuck with your friends and online opponents in."

Avert the Advert? - September 04, 2001 - by Praetor

"Now lowering the cost of games [through advertisements] seems very skeptical. Hypothetically if a game were to sell one million units the game developers would have to receive several million dollars just to lower the price a couple dollars. Despite the low possibility of this happening, deciding whether to buy one game versus another could be a matter of only five dollars.
The most probable use of extra funding would most likely be to spend a few extra months to refine a game and smooth out textures, add new maps, and maybe even get more publicity."

Interior VS Exterior - August 28, 2001 - by Praetor & Matt Pruitt

"Both Interior and Exterior levels have been used in AvP and both are said to be in AvP2. But which is really better? Praetor and Matt Pruitt go down on the facts and discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly of each. Their position in this article may not reflect their true opinions. If we do happen to get one of the facts wrong, please people, no hate mail.

"Praetor: What could be better than the outdoors? Fresh air, blue skies, and bunnies on the hills!

"Matt: For you indoor players, you all know how hard it is to move around in small hallways, so trap your opponent in a corner and light him up with the oh so beautiful, minigun!"

Two Guns are Better than One - August 23, 2001 - by Praetor

"First off, we need to know why it's important that the player is always alone. Unlike many other first-person shooters, AvP is filled with constant surprise attacks that keep us on the edge of our seats. The feeling of being alone is there to keep us that way. With Aliens sneaking in from in front of you, behind you, on top of you, and even below you, it will be best for you to stay focused on staying alive and less on trying to make allies keep up with you and worrying about what they're doing."

AvP II Demo Review - August 16, 2001 - by Tony Volk

"The sound and graphics are great (if you can deal with them-more on that in the bad). Everything looked superb, the sounds were great (including radio chatter) and the map's detail was nice. I thought that the aliens were a little skinny with odd faces, but they still looked good (just like in the screenshots). The music was very well-suited, but it tended to come on when an alien attacked, which gave them away should they try to sneak up on you! The weapons are cool, with the pulse rifle sounding much more like the movie (as do the aliens for that matter)."

Top 10: Excuses for Getting Fragged - July 10, 2001 - by Praetor

"When you get fragged in a game, what do you do? Do you continue playing? Do you try and get revenge? Or do you come up with some lame excuse as to why you got killed?"

AvP II Characters - June 29, 2001 - by Tony Volk

"Among the many changes coming to the new version, perhaps one of the most intriguing is the addition of new character types. A lightweight and heavyweight pred, an exoskeleton marine and a dog alien may all grace the new lineup. But are these additions welcome variety or useless clutter?"

Cheapness of Champions: Marine Edition - June 21, 2001 - by Praetor

"Marines specialize in a variety of weapons due to their weak physical capabilities. On several occasions I have heard almost every single weapon in the Marine's arsenal being referred to as cheap. Weapons not included in this editorial are the Flame-thrower and Pistol(s). I'll just start at the top and work my way down..."

AvP II Maps - June 15, 2001 - by Tony Volk

"One of the things that clearly set AvP apart from the other shooter games was just how absolutely, positively, freakingly scary it was to play the marine. The claustrophobic paranoia was absolutely delicious. I remember walking through the first level and jumping at every corner only to finally meet the first alien and promtly die screaming with the trigger firmly depressed! That was the first time any game had reminded me of the original films, and I could appreciate the packaging of spare boxers with the game!"

Cheapness of Champions: Predator Edition - June 05, 2001 - by Praetor

"The Predator is given high-tech weaponry and requires energy to use about half of its weapons. Accuracy is an important trait of excellent Predator players and is required to use most of these weapons effectively.
Never in all of my journeys have I heard of the wristblades being called cheap so they will be exempted from this."

Interview with a Pirate - June 03, 2001 - by The_Ranger

I have had the opportunity to conduct a live interview with a pirate in my hometown. Whatever my personal opinions, I have tried to be as open-minded as possible to all arguments. What follows may shock you.

I interviewed Time2DieUBum, a confessed software pirate. He is not unknown in our AvP community, but this article goes to all games in all genres. Anything in italics is a post-interview note I have made in response to one of Time2DieUBum's answers.

Aliens vs. Predator II - Past to Present - May 31, 2001 - by Matt Pruitt

"What does AvP2 have in store for us? That's what I have been asking, and I'm sure most every other Aliens and Predator fan out there. This article will take you back to the first rumors of AvP2 and to the facts of the present."

Cheapness of Champions: Aliens Edition - May 29, 2001 - by Praetor

"I seem to hear that word quite often now used by many unhappy gamers. It seems that many weapons featured in AvP Gold are considered by many to be 'cheap'. By this of course I don't mean easily affordable to buy in the black market. So what is wrong with these weapons? Are they too powerful, too fast, or possibly aim for you? If you answered 'yes' to any of those reasons stated then you should read on because I will now explain why these weapons are not cheap."

The Way I See It - May 01, 2001 - by Mat Carter

"In the recent Planet AvP in Review, I started a little rant in the Final Thoughts column that I thought could be better expressed as a complete editorial. I was basically commenting on how the Aliens vs. Predator community had once again fired up these past few months; we were seeing a lot more community activity be it creative or simple, passive game playing. The reason behind this flux of activity is an open debate, but I'm going to shed some light onto the AvP community as a whole: the way I see it."

The GSA-MPlayer Merger - April 26, 2001 - by LunaV

"Yup. That's just what MPlayer and GameSpy Arcade did. Why? Well, the whole story is MPlayer was bought out by GSA. MPlayer was part of a company that is now focusing on making voice recognition products, and with the elimination of their multi-player service, can dedicate their resources more fully to their products. In English? GSA bought out MPlayer And the company that runs MPlayer is dedicating themselves to making other products. Both MPlayer and GSA have pros and cons. I'll list them here in no particular order."

Merger: 1 + 1 = 1? - April 23, 2001 - by Praetor

"Anyone that plays Aliens vs. Predator online should know, unless they live in a cave, that GameSpy Arcade has merged with MPlayer to form one gaming service. Everyone has their own opinion about this and many of them would have the word [censored] written all throughout it. I mean, I have been a GameSpy Arcade Administrator/Helper before, during, and after this transition. As these events took place I was able to see the first of the MPlayers arrive on GSA and the reactions of them and the ones that followed. Now I will give my opinion on the situation."

What has Happened to My Games - April 06, 2001 - by Nick "Skull Reaver" Gillham

"Anyone remember the days of the NES, Master System, Amstrad, Spectrum, SNES and Megadrive? Remember the games you used to play on those machines? Remember how fun they were? Remember how many times you used to play them over and over? What the Hell happened???!!! Not long ago I played games to death, I would wear out my cassettes and cartridges playing games as many times as possible, because I wanted to. Because they got my pulse racing, and something about them kept bringing me back. Games like..."

Back to the Dark Ages - April 04, 2001 - by Mat Carter

"If you're as nostalgic as myself, you'll have a hefty collection of ancient gaming machines and a plethora of tapes, floppy disks and cartridges stashed away somewhere gathering dust. Every now and then you'll catch a glimpse of this holy grail of gaming memories and find yourself daydreaming about those happy days where the 16 color, 320x200 resolution graphics were state of the art and supremely realistic. The next thing you know, you're sitting in the living room with a crusty gaming rig on your lap, filled with the excitement of a 10-year-old as you insert your favourite game and prepare to relive the memories…"

My Opinion, by Others - March 29, 2001 - by Praetor

"Today I will be discussing the single player missions in AvP. We seem to always focus on the multi-player aspect of the game and think of new ways to improve it. I headed back out to GameSpy Arcade and asked a couple people a few questions about what they thought of the single player section of the game. I also added my own comments after each question."

Cheating and Newbies - March 27, 2001 - by LunaV

"Well, first of all, let's define things. Cheating in it's truest form is usually manipulating a program so others just can't beat you. No, I'm not talking chucking grenades about or using flares while people are using the Image Intensifier. I mean, using patches for things like God Mode, Jet Pack in multi-player, switching species in the middle of Death Match or Species Deathmatch, etc. Newbies. In my opinion, I believe there are two true types. A newbie is classified as any one new to the game. I am new, yes. However, the newbie everyone takes as an insult is the one who goes 'i'm gonna kick ur L4ME @$$' or the one who asks how to..click into a game."

You Only Live Twice - March 19, 2001 - by Praetor

"I am sorry to disappoint the James Bond fans out there but this is not about the movie. Instead, I will talk about the feature in the game that allows for a certain number of lives in a multi-player game. This feature is often left unused in many games. I say this for GameSpy Arcade, as I do not use Mplayer. Below I will list the way that this works as well as fun ways of using it."

What's in Your Backpack? - March 06, 2001 - by Praetor

"The first is the Pulse Rifle marine. This is a good choice for people who never use any guns that they pick up. Like any specialist, you will not have to worry about picking up any other guns (except pistols) so your preferred weapon is always on. The Pulse Rifle marine comes with 15 pulse grenades and 9 magazines of 99 rounds. This should last you a very long time and can prove to be a lot of firepower. But because this is a rather basic gun, you may find yourself outgunned in most situations. I would recommend this to the higher skilled marines that are looking for a challenge."

The Special People - February 24, 2001 - by Praetor

"My first article for Planet AvP is about marine specialists. Although you may think that some of them are a cheap way of winning, it may become more difficult to play. I will go through each of the specialists and talk about their strengths and weaknesses.

AvP Multi-Player Article Part IIb: Maps and Games - February 15, 2001 - by Tony Volk

"Well, last week I talked about the technical aspects of gameplay and the weapons (you can find them here and here). Now it's time to focus on the places and goals behind the use of those weapons. Since maps are a hot topic right now, I'll start with them."

AvP Multi-Player Article Part IIa: Game Play - February 08, 2001 - by Tony Volk

"Well, on to part two of my commentary about AvP multiplay. If you don't know what this is about, check out the first article (which Dave will be linking about here ["Yeah, ya' welcome." - David]). So moving on from the technical aspects of the game, it's on to the actual game play."

AvP Multi-Player Article Part I: Technical Aspects - February 08, 2001 - by Tony Volk

"Welcome to the first article in a three-part series that will look at the experience of multi-player AvP. The technical aspects, game play and community will all be addressed. But why focus on the multi-player part of a game that has perhaps one of the most emotionally-charged single player games out there? Well, sooner or later, single-player is finished, and the tenth time playing each level gets tiresome. That's when multi-player becomes critical for the continued enjoyment of the game. Furthermore, an increasing number of game players in general are purchasing games specifically for their multi-player play."

Predator Climbing - January 16, 2001 - by Tony Volk

"You've just blasted that pesky Alien to bits, and are now waiting for that hapless Marine to wander into the room so that you can shoot him with your spear gun. All you need is the perfect place to snipe your prey from. Spotting a ledge, you walk over and try to jump. It's too high. So, awkwardly, and loudly, you start firing your spear gun and jumping in an effort to reach that ledge. Maybe you'll get lucky and get the two good shots you'll need to reach it. In any case, it doesn't matter since the saavy Marine heard your grunting jumps and the shots from your gun. Switching to his Vulcan cannon, he promptly blasts you into a messy, green oblivion."

Alien Resurrection Review - November 06, 2000 - by Phil Hickerson

"Come one, come all, to the official Planet AvP review of what some are calling the end all Aliens gaming experience, Alien Resurrection! Predator here, and I have been hacking away at the game to bring you a no-punches-pulled final word of what I personally expected from the title, and whether or not it delivered. AR has been in the works for more than three years and went from something along the lines of Dino Crisis, into a full-blown first person survival horror title. That's right, you read this correctly. This game isn't Alien versus Predator on PlayStation. It's purely about survival, and this game makes that pretty damned hard. Though AR is definitely a good, good game, a few stumbling blocks do hinder the experience, ultimately keeping it from greatness. So that it is easier for me to write and for you to read, I am going to do this in categories. Is that a problem? Didn't think so!"

My First Time - October 18, 2000 - by Raven

"Yep, I'd like to share my first time with everyone... my first time playing AvP that is, although my first experience with the opposite sex is quite a story. Anyway, I'm going to tell you all about my first time playing AvP and what really appealed to me so that I've continued to play it and can't wait to get my grubby little hands on AvP2. It was one boring Sunday afternoon, I'd just finished my afternoon snack when my friend burst in with his computer under one arm and the holy grail of games under the other. (So I exaggerate a little). Whichever way, he passed me AvP while he setup his computer and within moments I was going to get my first taste of the action game that would forever change the way I sleep at day (errr night)."

The Talented Mr. Shipley - September 19, 2000 - by David Shipley

"So, what exactly is the point of this article here? Well, everyday, I usually have this big grin on my face, and most people think I'm a lunatic. You see, I've learned... the meaning of life - the hard way - I've learned... how fragile and horrible it can be... I've learned that if the worse thing in my life is getting up early in the morning, almost hitting some car (in which the owner would then flash me the Universal Symbol of Happiness), or sitting in occasional traffic jam, I have nothing to complain about. I've learned this lesson... in Indonesia. And I'd like to share the experiences that helped teach me this lesson."

Censorship Take 2 - August 29, 2000 - by Skull Reaver

"Right, how many people watch wrestling here? I see some hands, obviously a few people are lying. But anyway, you'll notice that they have altered Steven Richard's character to a bloke who likes to censor things and while making them more enjoyably for him, he is ruining the fun for everyone else. I'm surprised this isn't hitting a nerve of the community censors out there who are viewing this and must realise that the WWF are taking the piss out of them. But I digress, back to the point."

No One Lives Forever Facts, Not Fiction - July 20, 2000 - by Skull Reaver

"What you read below are the specs for Monolith's forthcoming FPS No-One Lives Forever. Now, while I've put comments below nearly every gameplay element and have posted this here at Planet AvP none of this is to be taken as if it will be included in AvP2.
I must stress this fact as we don't want hundred's of you bombarding me and Monolith with E-Mails and phone calls demanding info. AvP2 is a long way off as Monolith have a lot of projects on their hands. Just be patient, good things come to those who wait."

The Panic Button - May 31, 2000 - by The_Ranger

"Huh? What are you talking about? That may very well be your response when you read the title. The Panic Button can be a vital part of a gamer’s key configuration. Let’s just say that the said gamer is playing Aliens Vs Predator, single player. He is a Marine, and he’s playing a bonus level. He’s walking down a hallway, and he was certain that he just saw something. However, the gamer lost it a few seconds ago."

Why Static Is Wrong to Close its Master Server - May 29, 2000 - by Glock

"About a month ago, Static released the AvP Gold Server/Tracker, which revolutionized AvP as a game. It was only compatible with the Gold Edition, because Gold was better able to handle more gameplay services. It goes without saying that the dedicated server support and the improved Client/Server netcoding has improved the game lagwise, and the increase of the maximum player limit from 8 players to 16 is something that could put us in the running with other games Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament."

An Interesting Future For AvP - April 26, 2000 - by Glock

"For the last week, AvP Gold Edition has been available throughout the United States, people are able to pick it up now at stores like Best Buy, Babbages, Electronics Boutique, and many other software stores across the country, and order it online as well. It has been a subject of great interest who has been following AvP since its release on PC last May."

Using Lag to Your Advantage - April 22, 2000 - by The_Ranger

"People always act like lag is incredibly bad, and has no redeeming features whatsoever. This is simply not true. Good players who know what can do can be at their best in a laggy environment. For each species, I will now tell you how to use lag to your advantage, and how to minimize lag-related risks."

AvP and Why it Didn't Make Me Want to Kill You - April 10, 2000 - by Spork

"Do video games cause people to commit violent acts? Really? I know it's a bit late to jump into this, but I decided as long as Planet AvP is willing to publish it for me, I might as well write something on it (thanks David!)."

Ideas For Mods Vol. II - February 19, 2000 - by berno

"Since the release of the basic AvP editing tools, such as the Texture Infector Beta and ScreamEd, mod-making has finally made it's debut into the Aliens versus predator community. Although basic, these tools revealed the "tip-of-the-iceberg" of what can be done with this fantastic piece of software we call AvP. With a map editor, script editor and a dedicated development team, anyone can imagine what is possible."

Censorship - A Good Idea or Just a Waste of Time? - February 15, 2000 - by Skull Reaver & Thrakkorzog

"A diner, as the waitress goes about her business of serving customers in her own pleasingly plump way, there are two men sitting in a corner drinking their tea and coffee while slowly chatting in the way they normally do. It’s these people who we join for this moment. They are Nick ‘Skull Reaver’ Gillham and Brad ‘Thrakkorzog’ Rabig."

The Form of Fear: Psychoanalitic Readings of Alien - January 22, 2005 - by Andrea Tallarita

"Ridley Scott's Alien is widely recognised as one of the most terrifying films ever made. It has generated three sequels, countless imitations, and has redefined our approach to science-fiction. Twenty-five years after its appearance, its power is undiminished. In this essay, I intend to explore the aspects of Alien that made it so terrifying, and to give its plot a psychoanalitic reading."

Custom Predator T-Shirts - October 05, 2004 - by CUBA

"Think you're a hard-core Predator fan? Not even close. Here's a guy who knows how to put 'Predator' and 'hard-core' into one cotton package."

Analysis of Alien vs. Predator - September 27, 2004 - by Draconican

"I am writing this review/analysis mainly for the purpose of defending the merits of Paul W. S. Anderson's recent addition to both the Alien and Predator franchises. I feel the need to do so, not only because the movie exceeded my expectations (which were quite low), but, more importantly, because I found the movie a valuable and almost integral addition to the now-united film series. First I will evaluate the movie on its own merits; the bulk of this analysis, however, is aimed at showing that Anderson, whether wittingly or not, has cleared up much of the (until now) inconsistent or confusing elements of the Alien trilogy proper. By looking at the movie form both these angles, I hope to prove that it is a worthy entry in the Alien/Predator world."

LV-478: A Mystery? - January 08, 2004 - by Draconican

"I created my own private Alien/Predator related world, LV-478, not too long ago. It was sparked out of my zealous devotion to everything Alien, Predator, Alien versus Predator (2), and H.R. Giger. I got my significant other involved with the creation of it. In the end, we produced a role-playing fan fiction community, hosted on Avid Gamers. Not that it is teaming with members, but I think it's a pretty good site, or maybe human arrogance is just taking place here. :P This article took up hours of my life as I researched information. And, of course, this article is all science fiction. I hope you realized that by now. ;-)"

A Study of the Xenomorphs of LV-266 ‘Halcyon’, By Dr. Helen Waterman - November 19, 2002 - by AlienSlof

"I came to work on LV-266 seven years ago, under the direction of Dr Mike Harvey, I was considered by Weyland-Yutani to be a valuable addition to the Halcyon Research Team because of previous experience with Xenomorph study. What I found here was vastly different from what I had seen before, I soon realised the experimentation methods here were yielding few results that were of any value. This essay has been rewritten since the arrival of the third and current Queen, this particular Xenomorph is of special interest, and it is her and her current hive of which I shall be recording. I am using a different approach to studying them than before, starving and poking them doesn’t work."

AvP II: Primal Hunt Review - August 17, 2002 - by Phil Hickerson

"Released near the end of 2001 - to much critical and commercial success, Alien versus Predator 2 was the closest yet we'd come to being inside the movies. However, it's somewhat questionable overall length left fans clamoring for more action.

"Enter Third Law Interactive, a developer perhaps best known for the mediocre KISS: Psycho Circus. Taking the reigns from Monolith, themselves with a full plate of projects right now, 3LI has developed Primal Hunt - an expansion pack that will certainly satisfy fans of the full game, despite some rather flaws."

Halo vs. AvP2 - August 03, 2002 - by Tim Hatton

"Here's the first fight: Master Chief vs. The Predator.

"I don’t want to start a huge argument, or even worse, a slagging match. I just don’t think that Master Chief, in its fight against the Predator, was given fair representation in Mechman’s article, although it was very amusing - check it out for a chuckle."

Runner Tutorial: Copper Devil - July 13, 2002 - by Juno Miller (AKA {66OC}Forgotten Hope)

"Of the races fighting in the universe, the human has left out in the cold, so to speak. Compared to the xenomorph, humans lack the blazing speed and infinitely useful wallwalk functions and self regenerative functions. Compared to Predators, humans don’t have the amazing durability or ability to become optically invisible. In short, humans really get the short end of the stick… Or so the media would have you believe. In reality, humans are the most efficient race in the universe in their trade: Killing."

AvP2 Timeline - April 12, 2002 - by Cameron Rhyne

"I have done my best to collaborate everything through in-game speech, briefings, times at the beginning of missions, and notes scattered about throughout the conflict. However, I have probably missed bits of information or gotten times wrong, so let me know what I got wrong and how it should be."

Runner Tutorial: Copper Devil - March 30, 2002 - by FleshRender [FUSION]

"Without a doubt, the runner species of alien is probably one of the most popular species of aliens that are played. For me, it most resembles the speed and raw agility of the original alien in AVP I. I feel most comfortable with it as an alien player. It does have its weaknesses, but proper use of this devestating and deadly creature will ensure you a high ranking in the frag counts."

Past, Present and Future of AvP2 Modifications - March 19, 2002 - by Chris Simpson

"Mod scenes, and online gaming communities, started to reach new heights in 1996 when id Software released the hit 3D shooter Quake. With a revolutionary idea, that had only been touched upon before, they soon released the source code to the scripting interface they used to write the game."

Don't Throw Away that Modem Yet - November 06, 2001 - by Phil Rossi

"My first foray into the multi-player world of AVP2 never missed a beat. Dial up? Dial up yours all who told me it couldn't be done. I admit, although many a promise were made about the enhanced multi-player capabilities of the sequel to Fox Interactive's instant classic, I was leary. Ever since I parted ways with my college T1 connection, my modem has been the source of much distress and disappointment in my online life."

Will it Suit You, Sir? Suits Me, Sir! - April 22, 2001 - by Mavvy Baby

"Mplayer… the life long force of many a gaming community, brought together by the simple program that, despite its problems in the past 3 years most of us had used it, it still kept us happy. The AvP lobby, although one of the largest lobbies I have seen on Mplayer, it certainly is the most friendly. With its definitive array of "Lobby Rats" that seem to never leave, and it's ever-growing lag spree as Newbies come and go… despite the age of the game. The AvP lobby is probably one of the most badly recognised by the Mplayer management."

Official Student Assessment Task Exam - April 02, 2001 - by Phobos

"Why are we so obsessed with violence? Why do we depend on violence? Nobody wants to admit it, but they crave violence, in movies, television shows, newspapers, radio stations and magazines, not because we are sick, or because we are sad diminutive creatures, but because of the sole reason that it is entertaining, and that is the only reason we need censorship because entertainment is dangerous."

AvP Weapons Guide - August 10, 2001 - by Kyle Watts

"Predators
Fire 1 = aim for the predator in general they tend to snipe so its chest it's the easiest target
Fire 2 = same as before the chest is the larges target 3-4 hits should kill it

"Marines
Fire 1 = aim for the chest about a 2-3 second burst should result in a frag
Fire 2 = the chest as it's a big target 1 solid hit should result in a kill

"Advantages
The pulse rifle is quite noisy and can draw other people's attention the enemies or comrades
A pulse grenades unlimited range adds a solid kick to this standard weapon."

Evolution Has Stopped on This Planet - November 15, 2000 - by Belshy

"Now it strikes me that other forums on other Planet sites are more diverse in a number of things; namely subject matter, and mood. The Daikatana, Quake, and Half Life sites (all habitual routes on my daily trawl of the net - the Daikatana one out of morbid curiousity) have posts about Mods, total conversions, hardware tech' issues, multi-player, and of course general coments about their respective game. The mood varies from jovial spam, to vicious flame, to good natured banter about gaming aspects. But the sense of community pervades the three sites in question."

What I'd Like to See in the Millennium Edition - February 11, 2000 - by Doc_Brown

"With all the talk of the Millenium Edition of AvP, I've gotten to thinking about some of the things I would like to see in it. For your convenience, I've categorized them below... "

Been There... Done That! - December 21, 1999 - by ZaZ

"All right. Let's face it. You've mastered all the single player levels. You breezed through the 'Colony' map as though it were your own backyard. You'ved successfully played tag with the battle-hardened Praetorians in 'Cavern', thumbed your nose at the Alien Queen as you flushed her through the air lock in 'Hangar' and you methodically blast Xenomorphs as your routine morning exercise."

Guide to Marine Bots in Single-Player - December 19, 1999 - by ZaZ

"I don't have the opportunity to play AvP in Multi-Player mode, so I spend all of my AvP time in Single Player. Playing as a single player does give me an insight to the various bots that you can deploy in the game. Now we all know that AvP is pretty scary to play as a lone Marine character (yeah, even though the game's storyline says that you're supposed to be the one-and-only Rambo fighting your way out) so what can you do to make the game more acceptable to your nerves? Introduce bots in the game, of course!"

A Brief Criticism of Avs.P Multi-Player - November 09, 1999 - by Belshy

"I'm going to try and keep this brief, and more importantly CALM :0) I don't think that I'm unique in that after I've finished a game's single-player campaign and LIKED IT, then the next step is to prolong the experience through the multiplay side......... if it's got it of course."

Mommy, Where do Aliens Come From? - October 18, 1999 - by Evil

"Most people who have seen all three of the Aliens movies, (Resurrection doesn't count,) will know that the aliens have a very er, unique way of breeding. Unfortunately, all those people who bought the game and have never seen the movies might be asking, "Mommy, where do aliens come from?". I, Evil, have decided to give you newbies the low down."

What Have They Done to Us? - September 25, 1999 - by Spunky Night

"Avs.P does what it does very well. It gives you feelings of terror, paranoia, insecurity and bad dreams. Nothing compares to the confusion of muzzle flashes mixed with screams of terror and the unique sound of automatic weapons fire that, for the most part, is usually pretty ineffective at keeping a young marine alive against such vile creatures as these aliens. And just when you think you got that bugger, you turn around just in time to be eviscerated by what you thought a moment ago, was just a shadow in the corner!"

Sentry Guns - August 26, 1999 - by ZaZ

"If you've seen the Director's Cut version of the 1986 Aliens movie, Corporal Dwayne Hicks showed Ripley remnants of the weaponry and equipment salvaged from the APC. Four of them happened to be remote sentry guns (turrets) with a few hundred rounds each (500 rounds, I think) and a portable laptop computer that monitored the frontal area (via the gun-mounted closed circuit camera), the uns' barrel temperatures and rounds remaining. Once armed, the turrets will fire at anything that they sense (humans, predators, aliens) without discriminating their target."
