Choose the One You Believe is Fitting. Defeat Them All. Become a God.

The Predator!

Well, as you can see from the 'weird' title of my article, this month's edition is about the three species of Aliens vs. Predator, and why some people prefer to play Aliens, Predators, Colonial Marines or Corporates.

(Note: Marines and Corporates will be treated as one species... because they are. *Giggles*)

So, why do some people like to play one species instead of the other?

First of all, I'd like to make a difference between people who choose to play a species because it fits their character, and people who choose a species based on what their opponent chooses...

Opponent Choosers

There's a short and simple explanation to this.

Although all three species are pretty much balanced (as they say), a player who's better at using a Marine against Aliens, but not against Predators, will probably choose an Alien against Predators -- because then his Cloaking Device is pretty much useless. The problem here is: if someone only knows only how to play the Marine against Aliens, he knows he'll get his rear (tee-hee!) handed to him when he comes up against Predators.

It would be stupid to choose the Marine in that situation.

The United States Colonial Marine!

It would also be kind of 'stupid' to choose the Predator in a map full of Aliens, as the main advantage for the Predator, his Cloaking Device, would be useless.

And so on.

Of course, there are exceptions, but most players I know are good with at least 2 of the 3 species (that's two-thirds, for the less mathematic PC geeks out there!). And most of the players choose their species by the opponents species.

Character Choosers

This is a bit harder to understand.

Alien -
A typical Alien player is one who likes to sneak around in the dark, and then attack from behind -- and rip everything into pieces. He or she likes to walk with feral wildness and feline elegance - meow!

As you might have guessed, I am an Alien player. And I will tell you why.

There's nothing greater than being wild -- like an animal run by instincts, without any matters of ethics or mercy. It's just like - meow! *Pounce* Yes, it's just like seeing someone you miss, pouncing on him/her, and cuddling him or her all over.

People who like to do this are Alien people.

The Alien!

Alien players are hardly team-players. They just like to bounce and pounce around, crawl around and hide-sneak-seek-attack (hit me if I'm wrong... no, wait. Don't hit me; buy me cute Japanese stuff! Kawaii!) Well, okay, sometimes teamwork does work with Aliens, but I think the Alien player is more of a loner who, while not minding others around, will sometimes pounce at random people. *Chuckles*

Okay, sometimes a team-playing Alien group is smart; having low strength, and dying quite fast, can be changed by the power of teamwork. But this hardly works, as Alien players known to be a bit stubborn and uncooperative.

Another reason for playing the Alien is that some people love the Aliens so much -- they love to play them. After all, crawling on walls and pouncing on people is fun!

Predator - A typical Predator player is also one who likes to hide - cloaked and unseen - and suddenly pounce on his/her prey... not even giving the opponent a chance to see what's coming to 'em.

Yes, Predators are sometimes called a "lamer" when they use the class-weapons, like the Plasmacaster, and so on. I personally, though, like the Plasmacaster. For these reasons: "Zoom, feep, zosh -- argh!"

Predators are bad team players; it just doesn't work that a Predator is a loner and likes to be a loner, and is able to win against a mass of others alone. He or she has so many cool weapons, and stalking up behind someone, taking the stick out, and then slapping his/her head off, is just a great feeling for all of those gore-fanatics out there. *Chuckles and points at random people* Or sitting at point, waiting hours for your prey to come, and then shoot his/her head off.

Fun, isn't it? (Yuck...)

Anyway, as I said for the Alien, some people just like Predators so much, that they love to play them in the game itself.

This is all I have to say Predators. Feel free to tell me to add things later on by mailing me. *Smile*

Humans - Now, Humans are the team players, as they try to make up for their weaknesses by sticking together.

A Human player is the typical Counter-Strike-liker (*washes her mouth because she said a bad word*), and just loves to get the biggest gun and blast everything that moves. In my opinion, though, you waste your money if you just play Humans, because the cool things in this game are Aliens and Predators.

Uh, somehow, I think I will be flamed about this article. *Lowers her ears*

All in all, I think everyone should just play whatever as he/she likes the most.

Well, that was it! Feel free to comment on my article on the Planet AvP Forums, or by mailing me. *Grin*

Good Luck with your game, and have fun!

Post Script: Thankies and hugsies to Izzy for giving me the idea to write about this topic.
