AvP2: Corporate Tactics

Perhaps
the least understood and least appreciated classes in Aliens
vs. Predator II is the Corporate Machine. In the movie series
the Corporation was always considered to be the enemy. The
Corporation didn’t seem to care about its people. Just look
at the terraformers from the second movie. The Corporation
sent them to investigate the crashed alien ship, resulting
in the loss of a whole colony. The Corporation did not take
an aggressive role until the third movie. Even then the so-called
enemy took a few shots with a pulse rifle and was quickly
reprimanded. That is just my take on the Corporation from
the movie standpoint.
Now let’s look at the Corporation from the Multi-Player view. About 1/2 of the servers I have played on use corporate classes. Which is a fair amount considering the lack of obvious differences between Corporation characters and Marines. Out of those servers only a few actually used the corporation as more than just extra Marines. My point is; the Corporation is perhaps the least played class in the game.
Corporation
Tactics
While
playing online as the Corporation is fun, it’s also dangerous.
More often than not you’ll end up as either the only Corp
character, or one of a two or three man team. This situation
has both its up sides and downs. If there are few to none
Corp players on the server this leads to some very interesting
tactics and advantages.
Being the only corporate killing machine in a server means
everyone is a target. It’s a very easy and effective way to
build up the kills. But that also has some disadvantages,
as the only corporate player in the server you have absolutely
no back up. With a total or two or three corporate players
on a server you now have a good foundation for small team
tactics. I have experienced this first hand; many people on
servers playing corporate characters are extremely open to
the idea of playing as a team. With 180° radius only to be
totally secure one human player needs to take up the rear
and face backwards. This is just one example of small team
tactics. Try clearing rooms and corridors with small teams.
This isn’t to say that corporate players are the only ones
who do this or can do this. But I think that someone who has
seriously played a corporate character is more open to the
ideas of relying on someone else’s help.
Why Not
Marines?
I played as every Marine character before I even knew whom the corporation was. I also played on several servers where corporate characters where playing while I was a marine.
Marines too are capable of performing small team tactics. They are also just as successful when they do choose to use them. But from my limited experience with marine players most don’t bother. I think this is due to the difficulties associated with getting multiple people to work on the same page. It’s much easier to coordinate a group effort when the groups consist of only two or three people. Try getting nine people to all hold to attack, see what kind of response you get on a server. If you can get every marine to cooperate then enjoy the benefits of team tactics.
Final
Thoughts
Even though the corporation has been portrayed as the enemy by both the movies and the game, in the right hands or group of hands the corporation has the potential to be an explosive force. All it takes is people willing to work together for a common goal.
