Writing Fan-Fiction: A Guide for the Aspiring Writer When you first read some of the fan fiction on our site, you probably think that it's not gonna be possible for you to ever even dream of writing something like this. That's where I come in. I have a handy list of things to do to make successful* fan fiction. *This does not guarantee popularity in any way. 1. Getting a Picture Just go to the AvP2 Species section and find yourself a nice pic for a story. For example, I'll use this one: 2. Write Some Character Descriptions Now you just fill out the character. It's supposed to be original, but if you borrow from movies nobody really notices. To continue with my example with the synthetic: His name is David. He was a synthetic made for a family with no children. He was made.... to love. His love is real, but he is not. See? Bet you couldn't tell that came from a movie. Advertisement 3. Make a Storyline Now you put the characters into a situation where the story will take place, and decide what they're gonna do. Just like in the last step, you can borrow from movies without anybody noticing. For example: Long ago in a galaxy far, far away... the synthetic David continues his struggle against the empire's army of xenomorphs. In the stories events, the aliens chase David, and he uses his powers that he received after being bitten by a radioactive spider to fight them off. 4. Dialog This is the hardest part. You need to decide what the characters will say to each other. If you're having no problem at this point, you're home free. Example: "All your base will belong to us," David cried at the aliens. "Mommy will love me now!" 5. Put it Together in a Story Just compile the stuff you have into a story now. Example: Android Love - David missed his parents. He had been given to them by a nice scientist that only wanted him to be happy. Now that the empire had sent its alien troopers after him, his life at home was over. He could feel the aliens closing on him. They were hungry. He peered around the edge of the building, looking at the leader of the alien hunting party, staring at the savage monster that had killed his parents. David dropped his gun, knowing it would only slow him. Jumping into the open he screamed at the aliens, "All your base are belong to us, bitches!" The alien horde charged. Using his web spray that he had gotten after being bitten by a radioactive spider, David entangled the attacking aliens. But the leader had waited for David to be occupied before it pounced. It landed next to him, tearing off his right hand. As David grabbed the stump, he heard the monster speak. "David, I am your father," it told him. "No," David cried as he grabbed it by the throat, "You stopped being my father when you turned to the dark side!" As the alien fell, its throat crushed by David's hand, David whispered to himself.
