Battle.net Guide - Ladders

Competition is everywhere, in sports, the workplace, even in Diablo II. Blizzard helps push along the competition by providing a Ladder which ranks people based off their experience and level in Diablo II. From the main Battle.net screen you'll find a button labeled Ladder which is your gateway into viewing the current rankings in the Realm. Once you click the Ladder button you'll be presented with two options, Hardcore or Standard as seen below.

The Standard Ladder ranks all Closed Battle.net characters and updates more than once per hour based off my observations. Once you enter the Standard Ladder ranking system you'll notice a list of the top characters in Diablo II at the time and their experience, class and current level. Of course it's always best to be on top of this list, but fear not you may also earn the top slots based off your Class as well! You'll have just as much respect as that top level Necromancer if you're on the top of the list for the Amazon as seen in the second screenshot below. All in all the ladder gives you a great way to excel and compete with other players, heck it even gives you bragging rights if you're listed.

Now if you're really looking for some "Hardcore" competition then the Hardcore Ladder is for you! Once you beat Diablo II on the Closed Battle.net you're given the option to create a "Hardcore" character which only has a single life. You still play with standard Diablo II people but you will lose your character forever if you ever fall prey to any of the vile demons in the Realm, even lag. Of course this penalty comes with it's bonus, you have a special ladder of your own to compete on and you'll always know that at any time those top players can be knocked off by death. If you have the guts and you want the glory then the Hardcore ladder is just for you!
