D3 Open Q&A Review

What will you do as far as hacking prevention?

They want a fair playing field, taking things they've learned from World of Warcraft and also future Battle.Net security.

How will Tyrael's interaction be in the game?

Have to play to find out...

PvP system implementation?

No intention of going hostile style like in D2, it will be supported better than previous games, original style hurt cooperative play.

Battle.net implementation -how will it work?

Haven't done a lot of battle net design- they want specific match making techniques. Emphasized that joining with friends should be easy.

Synergies in talent trees in D3?

It worked with 1.10 in Diablo II for the skills that existed. There isn't a need for it with the current skill system in Diablo III.

How about the variety of quests in D3?

Lot of room for exploration of ideas. New gameplay mechanics like timed quests and story driven random quests.

The Monk is a street fighter class. Any chance of an easter egg Haduken?

I can't say...

Handling replayability, random environments, random bosses, random items, and events.

We want to make sure there is a lot of content. The fastest way to progress in the game should be the most fun.

Will factions return even if they're not playable?

Yes can't talk too much about it.

Will d2 v1.13 transition into d3?

We're not on the same team - They consult together but they aren't the ones working on the patch.

Hardcore in d3?

We do want hardcore mode...no specific features yet but open to ideas.

How will the High Heavens be in d3.

No details... The High Heavens aren't pleased with Tyrael's actions.

Why the large map of the world?

They want the world of sanctuary to feel real and alive. They wan to elaborate on the cultures.

Plans for UI addons?

No plans; feel strongly about simplicity and straight forward design for D3. UI mods are great but they increase the complexity of controls in the game.

Can you toggle off the words like stun and other things?

They have toggles on some...gameplay is always first but some things are necessary in order to understand the game.

New currency system? Or implementation?

Gold lost value because of things like the trade system. Lots of ideas in mind. They want gold to be meaningful. They want it to be a trade currency and not items being the trade currency like d2.

Town portals or waypoints?

Waypoints system will return like D2, but town portals will likely be removed. They affect combat because you can escape from any situation [too quickly] so there were design flaws. For example Duriel wouldn't have existed in D2 without town portals, check point for death and resurrections and exits in the dungeons will reduce travel time to allow players together back to town and get to the game quickly.

The wizard seemed slow at casting - why?

It has to do with the skills picked for the demo; there are many faster-paced skills in the game so you can have a fast paced gameplay for the Wizard. Arcane Orb is a slower skill.

Zombie Dogs: What happened? (Can't add poison by Locust Swarm, fire, etc.)

Readability issues people thought it was an enemy, they tuned down the fire look but it didn't look good. Rune system will likely be the customization of the zombie dogs.

Any ideas or plans for phasing in d3? (Permanent effects on game world.)

Not a persistent world like WoW; the technology isn't there and D3 is much more linear. Maybe at some point there will be a reason for it.

How about base quests for character classes?

There is much more dialogue with the characters, so you are more involved in the story. Class quests sounds like a great idea.

Is the gameplay new-player friendly?

The UI is very strenuously designed to make the game very easy game to learn and play.

Will different zones have different music?

Very specific music for each zone yes.

Will there be skill builds for PvP in d3?

Part of supporting PvP better is by making skills that are PvP and PvE based. PvE is always first.

D1 and D2 felt more confined but D3 is very open...why?

The confined feel will be based on where you are in the game and the story behind it.

Will there be a D3 map editor?

No intention because the random generated areas make it too hard to expose that technology to the outside world.

How the hell is Diablo still alive?

Nice try...we haven't said he'll actually appear in the game!

Gambling in D3?

Gambling in D2 was a "black box." Some gambled and spent all the money and never did it again because they didn't get anything meaningful. They do want to have ways to get items other than runs and killing, but aren't sure how to approach it yet.

Class-specific items: Where will you go with them?
There is an intention to have class items for each class. They want them to be really cool signature weapons/items.

Stay tuned for more and comment in the forums!
