Hello Gheed and thanks for giving me all those sojs, i have traded them for many good rares in the past.
I would like to know if the blocking is actually capped at 75% for the shield. I know that with holy shield you can make the blocking appear over 75% and that with twitchtroe (don't remember the correct spelling) the blocking increase is not shown at all. Is the blocking for shield capped at 75% or not?
I have asked many people on b.net and they have different opinions, i think blizzard should fix this problem for paladins (since they seem to hate the paladins, they sill havent showed the correct damage you do with blessed hammer and concentration, and they ruined conversion attack back when 1.03 came out)
Dave,
Yes, the blocking rate for shields is capped at 75%, although you can get higher with Holy Shield.

How are you today Dr. Gheed? I have a few questions for you if you wouldn't mind...
1. Would you happen to know the exact formula for how much harder monsters get when additional people enter the game? I play a sorceress and often find myself playing games on battle.net with a player limit of 1 because after someone comes in, I end up having to use my static field-run, static field-run technique on even the most pededstrian monsters (ie. vile
lancers!#@). Now I know Blizzard did this so the game would still be a challenge with numerous people, but
the rate at which their power increases seems ridiculous to me, especially when considering that half the people that enter my games don't speak a lick of english except for ~~~~~~~~~gogogo~~~~~come item~~~p~k~~~~ ^-^.
2. This one's pretty straight forward... WHY THE HELL CAN'T YOU BUY MANA POTIONS IN TOWN? *YOU* know there's the demand, why don't *you* sell them? You could make a killing
3. What do you think the chances of Blizzard releasing more than one expansion for D2 are? Considering their track record, D3 won't be out until 2005, if that, and D2 will have become quite boring by then...
4. Are there any plans in the expansion to make it so that when you wear a unique your avatar looks like he's actually wearing what we see in the picture opposed to just a discolored version of the original? Also, different artwork for exceptional items would be nice as well...
5. And lastly, are they going to make unique's and set items that don't becomes utter crap after Normal mode in the expansion, or possibly upgrade the ones now? What are the chances of them adding more powerful unique's in just an upcoming patch opposed to the expansion?
I know that was kinda long, any answers to these would be appreciated, and keep up the good work, Dr.
Jimmy,
I'm doing just fine, today. After a line of good sales, I'm quite joyous, and ready to party later tonight. Of course, I have plenty of Narlat weed in stock, too. It should prove to be a very interesting night. Now, onto your queries:
1. The formula for experience you receive from monsters in games with more than one player: X + (n-1)*((2/3)X) = Experience. X represents the original number of experience you would receive from the monster, depending on the distance of the monster's monster level from your character's character level. The number of players in the game is represented by n.
2. You can't buy mana potions from NPC merchants because Blizzard North decided to design Diablo II in that way; they saw it as a balancing factor-- obviously there were certain reasons why having merchants sell mana potions would unbalance the game. Now, for my reasons-- they just cost too much to order. First, we have to get in contact with suppliers in southeastern Sanctuary, and the shipping charges are immense. Just not worth it, for the amount I would have to sell them for to stay competitive.
3-5. I really doubt that Blizzard Entertainment will make a second Expansion Set for Diablo II; many gamers are quite disappointed that the game is so repetitive (almost as much as Diablo I was), and the technology used in the game would be very outdated by the time a second expansion was released. Additionally, they have never released a second Expansion to any of their games. Blizzard North hasn't stated that they plan on providing that avatar feature, but I agree that it would be a neat addition-- albeit unnecessary. For your last question, Blizzard is going to be enhancing Diablo II so that you can actually achieve a full Set before it becomes too weak to be useful. This feature will be included with the Expansion Set.

Subject: Version 1.04
Hello Mr. Gheed!
I just upgraded to version 1.04, and now the game runs really, really slooooooooow, which makes it not any fun to play. It work just wonderfully under 1.03, now it doesn't, so really I guess I was just wondering if theres been any problems the patch, or if its something to do with my compy. I have a horrid internet thingy, so I don't play online so it can't be lag. I guess I could just reinstall 1.03, but I really wanna make a prismatic amulet, someone told me that it would work in 1.03 though, me dun know what to do hopefully you can help! Ta ta for now.
Kaitlyn 30th level Sorceress
Kaitlyn,
Your problem is quite odd-- I've not heard of Diablo II slowing down after the version 1.04 patch. I wouldn't doubt that it could be due to your computer; the only way we can really know is if other fans let me know that they are having the same problem or if you reinstall Diablo II and actually notice a difference. Unfortunately, I can't help you out with anything immediate.

Subject: SOJ ring order
Greetings noble Gheed. I am some what new to Diablo, but have had the chance to hear rumor of the SOJ ring. I have managed to obtain a rare ring, of what I can't tell because the server is down now... But I do know that you must have certain rare rings in order to find SOJ. My questions is:
What is the order of rings needed, in order to get SOJ?
Thanks,
Baulloo
Baulloo,
According to the original plans for the unique rings and amulets systems, you were supposed to be required to get the unique rings/amulets in a specific order. To get a Stone of Jordan with this system, you would have to get Nagelring and then Manald Heal first. I've heard of players getting Stones of Jordan or Manald Heal rings without having the previous "required" ring(s), so the order system may not be in effect.
