I was delighted to include, in this week's edition, a special e-mail sent from a true fan of Gheed, defending my enthusiastic rejection of the theory that I have any relationship to that perished but annoying, pesky, and rumored-to-be mentally challenged, peg leg Wirt. He never knew how to do business, and he didn't even have his own strike teams of assassins, bouncers, and bodyguards! Besides, I don't come from anywhere around Tristram, where that brat lived his short and miserable life. You know, I bet it was a Fallen who killed him in the end. [muffled laughter]
Read on to find several reasons why I'm so much better than that wanna-be millionaire who couldn't even provide gambling service:

I have heard a lot of people complaining about you giving +1 to light radius rings and such. I have to say i am on level 44 and only gamble at your shop (cause in Alkor looks high and staggers) and have yet to buy ANY ITEM of +1 light radius (not that i want to) that amulet of +1 amazon skills was nice though.... Another thing was people comparing you to Wirt. I have made a list of things to show how much better you are than that stupid little kid.

Now people around B.net complain you never sell rares anymore. Well let me tell all you readers out there that I have been in the back of his shop looking at the horde of rare (and very good quality) items. Now if i can get a mask with 164 def, and a bunch of resistances, and +23 to life, i dunno why you're complaining about rares. SO TAKE THAT. After reading this you might as well just give Gheed the key to your stash for being so mean to him.

You might just be missing out on these great Light Radius items because they are going so fast; it seems that players just *love* them and I certainly like to sell them. I do like that "giving me the key to your stash" idea; I'd be quite amused to be able to loot from you terribly rude adventurers (not you, Trina, of course). ;) Oh, and that comparison between Wirt and the wonderful Gheed (that's me!) was perfectly appropriate, but you did forget to mention that I've built up quite a fortune without being slain by some demon like that peg leg excuse for a merchant. Stop by the shop anytime!

You responded to Andwarf on the latest "Ask Gheed" feature:
"While it is no longer possible to gamble for unique and set items, you can
now (with Diablo II: Lord of Destruction) receive exceptional and elite
items this way. However, they won't appear as exceptional or elite until
after you have gambled. However, you can't receive magical exceptional or
magical elite items from gambling, only rare or unique versions -- but this
doesn't mean you'll get rare items all of the time. This just means that
whenever the gamble turns out to be magical (blue titled item), it will be a
base item (not exceptional or elite)."
Magic (blue) exceptional and elite items can be gambled. I've been doing a
lot of gambling the last couple days trying to get a nice legend sword, and
I've received many blue Epsadons and Legend Swords which were not rare. The
Arreat Summit had information along the same lines as you and have since
corrected it. Just wanted to keep you up to date. Love the feature!

Since PlanetDiablo's new Gambling guide is being worked on right now, I used the Arreat Summit to reference that information. Unfortunately, at that time, they had the wrong facts for that particular issue -- you can end up with a magical exceptional or magical elite item when gambling. Thanks for the correction! Oh, and don't forget to check out PlanetDiablo's new Gambling Calculator to find your chances for ending up with a certain exceptional or unique item (including your chance to get it as a rare!).

Subject: Tell Gheed...
I'm not asking a question, just telling you you were wrong about something... I read a question about "damage taken goes to mana" and you answered it incorrectly. You said:
"This effect of Nightsmoke is actually "50% Damage Taken Goes to Mana." That means that half of the damage you receive is subtracted from your mana instead of your life -- not that you gain back a certain amount of mana based on 50% of the damage you received."
Actually you DO gain mana if you get attacked. If you take 100 damage and you have Nightsmoke equipped you still take all 100 damage but you will GAIN 50 mana. If it were as you said it would be possible to get over 100% and that would be pretty cheap especially if you were a sorceress with lotsa warmth. I'm sure I am right about this because I watched my brother get hit with about 100% damage taken goes to mana, and his mana jumped up quickly, and he still took the right amount of damage.

You are, indeed, correct. I was mistaken about the "Damage Taken Goes to Mana" item effect -- you still receive the full amount of damage from the attacks of enemies, but a percentage of the damage you receive is actually returned to you as mana. Thanks for the correction, and stop back at the shop any time! More frequently, too!

Of course Blizzard Entertainment will make a Diablo III! It's already in the process of early development; the third edition to the series will be titled: Diablo III: The Story of Gheed -- and, of course, be all about me and how to give me money (as the first two games would have been immensely improved upon should they have been styled the same way).
Seriously, for a moment (at least), we don't really know whether or not there ever will be a third edition in the series. However, the three Prime Evils aren't actually dead -- their souls are just lying in the "black abyss which spawned them" and they might return at any time. Blizzard North is, supposedly, working on a completely new project now that they are finished with Diablo II and the Expansion Set, so we'll have to see where their incredible talent leads them next. Due to the success of the Diablo series, though, I wouldn't doubt that we'll see a third game eventually.

In Act V when you have a weapon socketed I have only seen it give 1 socket for rare or Unique items. I was excited to have my Bonesnap imbued thinking that since it is a maul I have the chance to get up to 6 sockets but I received only 1, I have tried with other rares and strong magical items and still only get 1 socket. Do you know the chance to socket ratio? or any
other info that might help?

Rare, set, and unique items can only gain one socket from Larzuk's quest reward (adding socket(s) to an item). Magical and regular items can get more than one, and the amount of sockets will then be randomly selected (while still being limited on the maximum for that particular item). You can also use one of the new Horadric Cube recipes to add one socket to a rare item. Oh, we're not staring at your "package," we're staring at the odd growth on your back.
Be amazed and amused as Gheed provides more wisdom...
