A Tale of Gheed

Since a few weeks ago, I've had some strange e-mails enter my blessed Inbox, with poems from various fans of the game you all love. Several more attempts at poetic literature based on the Diablo series. (Oh, by the way, don't forget to read and send in fan fiction at The McFist Chronicles!) Short poems, to be exact. Not all were too great, but this was chosen as it did involve me in at least one of the following. Enjoy, and keep on gambling! (Following the poems will be the normal set of questions answered.)

Hey Gheed, I got a good question for you. With the current patch for Diablo 2, the name I don't remember, is it possible to gamble for a Stone of Jordan or other rare rings or amulets? Please tell me the truth before my Sorceress gambles away her life savings in search of a SoJ.

P.S.- Even though Kashya hates you, I still think you are cool.
P.S.S.- Where do you get your weed in Lut Gholein? I get mine from Atma, but some say that Lysander has a nice-sized stash too.

As of version 1.08, gambling for any unique items or set items is impossible -- you may get these two types of items only by slaying some more minions of the Prime Evils (and getting lucky) or trading with other adventurers. (Note: This is supposed to be changed when version 1.09 is released.) You can still gamble for rare (yellow title) and magical (blue title) items, of course, and it is possible to receive rare amulets/rings from gambling (not just magical).

Oh, yes, I've been quite amused since your Sorceress has been around, I admit, and not just because I'm becoming even more wealthy due to her gambling losses. Just don't let her know that I've been cheating her out of her gold for some time now; those spells are dangerous, and her company... is enjoyed, to say the least. As for my sources of Narlant Weed, why, that's quite a secret; I'd rather keep the flow of that lovely stuff steady, and the authorities aren't always too kind about it.

What are the ways in which one can socket (magical) items (like Act 5, Quest)? I read on the website that now, there are many ways to socket magical items. What are they?

There are several methods for finding socketed items. First of all, some items in the merchant trade screen will already be socketed (even magical items can be). You could always do it "old style" and just search for socketed items off monster/chest drops out in the wilderness, but you can also use the Act V: Quest 1 reward to socket an item (one which is not already socketed). The last method I currently know of (besides trading with another adventurer) would be the special Horadric Cube recipe. That is supposed to only work on rare items, but it might work with a crafted item.

Subject: Settle a dispute

Recently in the Cooperative channel on USeast, we were playing a little trivia game. The moderator asked the question "Where does the hero place the soulstone at the end of Classic Diablo?" I guessed the forehead, because that is how I remembered it. He reported the anwser as being his hand. Having given away my copy of Classic Diablo, I cannot confirm his claim. Could you help me out?

When the Warrior bravely faced Diablo, the Lord of Terror, far underneath Tristram, he forced the demon's soulstone shard into his forehead, not his hand. (Well, if you really want to get technical and don't factor in the changes that Diablo II made to the storyline, this is true for the Rogue and Sorcerer, too).
