You may have noticed that last week, I did not have the chance to answer your questions and comments-- I had come down with a violent case of a mysterious disease that provided me with abnormal bowel movements... not a very fun condition. I had to survive through a few days of pampering from the Rogue nurses (yowiee!), a very nice sight for sore eyes. Unfortunately, most of the time I was unconscious or... let's just say miserable. I did get some time alone with Charsi, but nothing happened as I was sick as a dog. Anyway, there is quite a large batch of questions answered and comments commented in this week's edition of Ask Gheed, so get ready to have some fun!

SkateRat,
You're in a bad situation! What I would recommend doing is double-checking that you do have the latest drivers for everything in your computer. If you have already done that, there are few things left to check. One of the most tricky and overlooked problems is current BIOS software, for the motherboard. Check the motherboard's manufacturer for any updates to your current BIOS version, and that may just fix your problem! Otherwise, I couldn't think of what is causing this to happen.

Subject: Backing Up Characters
Gheed,
I have read in many strategie guides it is possible to back up
your character in the single player game. How can I back up and
restore my character and are there any possible side effects?
PS. I had to pawn my full plate mail to make up for all my gambling!
-Krog
Krog,
All you need to do to back up a character (an open character) is to copy its .D2S file. These are located in the /save/ directory under the main Diablo II directory. Each D2S file is named for the character, so if you have a Barbarian named "KuteKitty," the file you would ned to copy is kutekitty.d2s. But, you ask, where do I copy this file to? Place it in a seperate directory, seperate from the Diablo II directories. Put it in a folder that you will remember, possibly even just on your desktop. If you accidently "mess up" your character some how, just copy this file (from the directory you placed it in), and paste it back into the /Diablo II/save/ folder, overwriting the one currently located there. You will end up with the items, character level, skill point distribution, etc. that you had when you backed up your character.
As for your financial troubles, maybe you just need to gamble at my shop some more... [muffled laughter]

Subject: rings of your store
Hey!
what's up. I'm playing diablo and I think the price of a ring is too high.I could buy a million potions at that price.I dont even want to
think about the tax!!
Everyone's entitled to their opinions, but I must say that the beautiful rings available at my stores are greatly underappreciated! These priceless items with incredible effects like... umm... +1 to light radius are quite the treasure, and you can always give them to your spouse or partner as a gift of love!* And as for tax, that gives me a wonderful idea... I'll increase all prices to compensate for the new "Gheed Fund" tax. Thanks for the idea!
* The rings do not have love power.

Subject: F***ed up Character/Account
HIYA!!!!!!
1st of all you kick ass!!!!
I gamble all the time and you seem to always give me a bonesnap when I
gamble for it. :) anyways,
my account is really f***ed up, if i find an item and it says that it has like cold damage and then my friend sees it and its a TOTALLY diffrent attributes and I can only use items that I pick up of the ground after a monster or chest, but when I get an item from somebody and equip it i get kicked off, and last but definetly not least is that I sometimes (ok, often)get items when the durability is like 67 out of 65. Is there ANY way to solve this because the ^!#@%%(^&$*^# over at blizzard arent answering my e-mail and wont do ANYTHING about it.
Thnx,
Seriously Pissed of Gamer
I am shocked and appalled that you are so lucky with gambling at my shop! :-) Please start gambling for the best armor available to you, so that I can buy another yacht... er... donate the proceeds to the starving children of the world. As for the rest of your e-mail, it's a bit too incoherent for a normal human to understand. So, your Battle.Net account has Cold Damage, but when your friend looks at it, it is totally different. Huh? You can only use items that are from the ground after killing a monster or opening a chest, and you get kicked off Battle.Net when you equip any items? Huh? You often get items that have durability amounts over their maximum durability? Huh? Well, the one part that I can answer is what you should do: Calm down, get some psychiatric help, and then cut your computer into tiny squares and sell them on E-Bay. More information can be found here.
