This year, I will be doing nothing special for the merry holidays coming up. This, of course, means that you should rush out to my shop for (what's that?) No Holiday Sale! That's right! You have the opportunity to not receive 30-90% off all merchandise, whether for gambling or for normal trading. I'll even forget to throw in a special prize package including half a gold coin and a copy of some crappy box labeled "Pong 2000: The Adventures of a Dot in 3D" for any purchase over 1,000,000,000 gold pieces. You can add to the holiday fun by leaving piles of gold on my shop's counter, so that I can put it in a little box that says, "Charity (Gheed fund)." Happy bankruptcy for all (except me)!
This week I have another batch of wonderful (but non-chocolate) questions and comments answered, so being reading below:

Oh Great Gheed! I am in mortal peril and i don't even think YOU can help me... I don't even know if this is how i'm supposed to ask u the question but what the hell?
The secret cow level doesn't work. Now i'm not an idiot. Diablo is dead, i have the items, i have transmuted them...the portal appears and presto! when i try to get in, nothing happens! This is most likely a bug but maybe u can correct me.
Oh, i just wanted to know (since i'm new at making websites) how you made something like the walkthrough section. (font and diablo themes) if ur not allowed to tell me...that's fine but i'm making a diablo 2 webpage.
Lumtai,
You have an interesting problem, which could be caused by several things. First of all, make sure that you actually completed the quest to kill Diablo. Even if you were in a party with people who ended up killing the demon, if someone who had already killed him in the difficulty level you are in gave the final blow, then it doesn't count-- you have to slay him again, with you giving the final blow (or someone else in your party who has not killed him already in that difficulty level). The second problem could be due to the fact that on the Realms, you only have one chance per difficulty level to visit the Secret Cow Level-- even if you just open the portal. Are you sure that after killing Diablo and joining/creating a new game, you didn't just open the portal to the Secret Cow Level and forgetting about it?
As for PlanetDiablo's great Walkthrough maps, I'm not at liberty to reveal the font and "Diablo theme" information. :-)

Subject: Question
Hey Gheed
just a quick question - what lvl do you think a sorceress on normal should be while fighting Mephisto?
Laroda - Soceress
Laroda,
I really can't give you an exact estimation of the level you should be when going against Mephisto, because there are many factors, as well as whatever decision you decide to make in the end. There are factors such as the number of people in the same game (more people = tougher monsters), the items you have equipped, what skills you specialize in, how effective you are in earlier areas of Act III, and more. The level of your character does not matter as much as how effective your Sorceress is in general. If you are forced to retreat a lot, concentrate on leveling-up several times battling monsters in areas before the combat with Mephisto. The ultimate decision comes down to what you want to do.

Subject: questions!
Dear Gheed,
I had a couple questions:
(1) what does it mean when an item has the attribute: "-20 requirements" - I know it reduces spell cost, but does it affect anything else?
(2) after beating diablo and going back to pandimonium, how do i get back from there to the prior places, like the rogue encampment? Where is the exit, or do i need to ask someone for transport?
(3) when you look at your skill tree, and say, for example, it says level 24 is required to get a particular skill... does this mean (a) my character needs to be level 24, or that (b) I need to have used up 24 skill points in that skill category prior to being able to obtain that high level skill?
(4) If I left wirt's leg on the ground and then moved on through the levels to defeat diablo... when I finish diablo, will the leg still be on the ground when I go back to the rogue encampment (so I can do the cows), is it gone forever, or if it is gone, is there a way I can get another?
(5) lastly, everytime I get on battle.net, it seems the game is VERY slow, i get a delayed reaction when I click an action, and black lines appear which don't allow me to move past a certain point in some areas. (on the delayed clicking, for instance, I will hit a zombie with my barbarian's sword and like 3 or 4 seconds later, the zombie will die from that one hit). Do I need a patch or something, or is battle.net just bugged?
Thanks for your column, I have learned a ton from reading it. Thanks in advance for answering my numerous questions.

Justice,
1. The effect "-[number]% Requirements" actually does not reduce the cost for using skills-- it automatically reduces the Strength and/or Dexterity, and/or character level that you must be or have to equip the item. This is a very useful effect for a Necromancer or Sorceress who can't concentrate too much on placing points into Strength-- it allows them to have items with high armor classes that otherwise wouldn't be available because of the requirements.
2. All you need to do is to go to a waypoint. Click on it as you usually would to go to transport yourself to another area, but notice at the top of the waypoint screen that there are four tabs, one for each act. Click on the name of whichever Act you want to go to, and select the area from that list.
3. The level requirement for skills applies only to character level.
4. If you leave Wirt's leg somewhere, whether you are playing single-player or multi-player, and stay in the game all the way to slaying Diablo, it will still be there. If you exit and join or create a new game, it will not be in the same area that you left it in-- it won't be anywhere in that game world. However, you can easily just go back to the Stony Field, where you will find the portal to Tristram open (as long as you created the game or whoever did had completed the Rescue Cain quest) and go through it. Travel to the same area that Wirt's body was before, and simply click on it again-- his leg will pop out as well as gold (as it did the first time).
5. Your connection to Battle.Net, if you are playing on the Realms, could be poor because of the gateway server you are using. For instance, if you play on the USEast Realm, but the gateway server you use is USWest, your connection to the USEast Realm will be slower or sometimes impossible. Gateway servers are seperate Battle.Net servers, which you log in to.
Hope this helps you out!
Oh my, has this page already served its duty? Onto the next...
