PlanetDiablo | Features | Ask Gheed | Ho! Ho! Ho! Gheed is back!

Merry Christmas indeed!

Ho! Ho! Ho! Yes, after a long hiatus, Gheed is back with a vengeance! In my opinion, it’s been far too long since I ripped off some poor adventure and insulted them. This week’s edition of Ask Gheed is a mini-version, just in time for Christmas. (Hey, even Gheed takes some time off for Christmas) But don’t worry, Gheed will be back for the new year, because Gheed is the gift that keeps on giving the whole year ‘round.

And for the last time, I’m not Santa. The proof is this week’s edition!

- Gheed.

Hi

I need to swap my characters in Diablo 2: LOD between my main home computer & my portable. I thought that it would be a simple matter of copying the files in the save folder, but that doesn't seem the case. Can you please tell me how I can do this?

TaffyPaulB,

Actually, it is a simple matter of moving your "save" folder within your Diablo II: Lord of Destruction directory to the other computer. However, there are a couple of things you must take into consideration. Firstly, make sure that both versions of D2: LoD are the same. Going with the latest patch is probably the smartest move. Secondly, make sure that your files and/or folders aren’t marked as "Read-Only," as this will prevent D2: LoD from saving any information about your characters when you play them. I once did this, and lost over 2 hours worth of play because it wasn’t saving.

Of course, all of this is moot is you are playing on the Realms. All of your character information is stored on the servers at Blizzard, so you don’t have to worry about moving files and folders around if you wish to play online.

My question is about + to damage % and/or + to armor %. Say you have a Kings (Bastard) Sword with + 150% damage. would the + to damage % affect the sword's damage only or the damage that comes from your strength also? The same with armor. Would the +150% armor from a Godly Armor (doesn't matter what kind) affect just the Godly Armor, or would it also include the other AC giving items (helms and shields) and your natural AC? Thank you for reading my letter.

Gobuzz29,

Any prefix which gives +[damage/defense]% only goes towards that weapon or armor. Consider this example: If I had a piece of armor which has an Armor Class (A.K.A. Defense [rating]) of 50, and then an extra %50 AC as a prefix or suffix (assuming the item is magic), and a helm which has 20 defense, my total defense rating would be 95, not 105.

Be shocked and amazed as Gheed steals from the rich and keeps it for himself!
