PlanetDiablo | Features | Mailbag | Ladder Reset/Patch 1.04

Irregularity

No, unfortunately FiberCon™ won't do the Mailbag any good in this case. The irregularity is due to a lack of emails. So, time for my little spiel: The Mailbag welcomes any emails regarding feedback on the site, the Diablo series in general, or mashed Lima beans. Shyness is no excuse. You have ideas; we want to know about 'em!

Next Week's Topic Will Be:

Describe the weirdest or funniest experience that you've had while playing Diablo II, or just lounging in a chat. Maybe a bug? Tell us!

Send your experiences in to feedback@planetdiablo.com!

Now onto feedback from the last bag's topic in which we asked you:
What do you think of the recent ladder reset? How about the 1.04 patch in general? Here's what you guys said:

Well the Patch is nice to a point ( mean all the b and c upgrades to it kind sucked). I like the Idea of resetting the ladder and the password change is great too. But 20min after the Reset there was a lev 70 char on the ladder already? I mean come on how can this guy be lv 70 in 20 min there is now possible way to do that on USEAST. they resetted the ladder at like 3am easter time and like 3:30 a lev 70? Another thing that I hate, I had a nice Necro on Hardcore, he was lev 38, was kicking but and on Act4 NM. i was in a party and took the WP back to town to heal up (not one minion around me) well I guess the Other guy in my party was getting his butt kicked and took the same WP back, well the game was a little laggy but not to bad. I got all the stuff I needed and took the WP back. UUUUUUUG DEAD before the screen even loaded the map back up. DAMN LAG!!! WHY ME WHY ME? The Patch is good but they gota fix the lag, I'm have DSL and my lag is worse than some people with 56k. well I'll stop bitching now and get back to work. hehehe

Yes, lag does reek. Unfortunately it's a problem that has no quick remedy. Sometimes it's your own loopback that causes the lag (i.e. you're farther away than the guy with the 56K modem to that particular server).

I personally think that the recent ladder reset was a good idea, but I hate to think that my current lvl 55 amazon will never get ranked. But my "pride" about making a character that is lvl 55 soon dropped after I found lvl 80 people in the new ladders A FEW DAYS after the ladder change. I mean, come on, you have too much free time in your hands if you spend 24 hours in a day to develop your character and get it to lvl 80 in less than a week or so.. hold on, I'll take that one back, I have once spent about 8 hours in a row building up my online characters.. =)

Yes, I've fallen victim to the prolonged character development. It can become very addicting. And then there's those people who just *have to* be on top--and what better way to do it than with a ladder reset where everyone gets a clean slate? That explains your high levelers.

Subject: About the Reset and Patch

I'm very split on my feelings about the reset.

On one hand, my favorite character, a Paladin, got hacked and all his crap was stolen.

On the other hand, life happens like that and isn't the fun of the game getting stuff that you want?

I know people will exploit the reset by giving their good items to their mules and then resetting the character, in turn, duplicating the item. I can't say much about this because I play Diablo for fun. The only time other players affect me is when... other players affect me. If they steal my stuff, pk me when I'm questing, or just, in general, act like an anus in a game. If they want to cheat and ruin the game for themselves, do it, I hope they are glad that they turned their $40+ game into a non-challenging piece of coded crap.

The new patch hasn't affected me one bit. I am an avid fan of updates because usually the company knows the current bugs and they fix them. It really doesn't matter to me if Corpse Explosion is weakened or weapons are available. I don't use lances anyway:)

That's my little nugget of joy.

Nuggets are good.

Patch 1.04

As is typical with any patch that comes out there are a handful of good things and a handful of annoying things. For starters, why does it have to be a closely guarded secret when Blizzard is installing a major patch on the servers? An amazing thing happens if you inform people you're fixing problems. . .they tend to not get as pissed off that the servers are down. (Although my opinion is that the people who are that concerned that they can't play with their level 85 barbarian at 4 in the morning probably need lives, or day jobs. . . it's a great game, but a game nonetheless.)

Anyway, the patch. . .

Was it entirely necessary to screw with the ToHit percentages and the armor class modifiers?? I had a happy level 36 Amazon who had a decently high armor class with a 15% chance of things beating her to a bloody pulp to a 58% chance in the span of 10 minutes! What the hell? And the whole thing where every time they fixed something they broke three other things was just plain funny. But the first version of the patch nearly killed my computer and I had to reload the game twice before I decided that their patch still had issues. Then going through three different versions of the patch to find the one that worked was equally tedious.

Among the things I do like is the fact that damage modifying skills for bows now work properly. More damage is always a good thing. :) And the speedier loading of Duriel might actually result me not dying instantly upon entering Tal' Rasha's Chamber.

Anytime a bug gets fixed it's a good thing, but sometimes I wish they wouldn't tweak with the important things, like the effects of certain skills after you've already been playing and distributing points to them; or the ToHit percentages I whined about earlier. Fix the bugs and make things the way they were intended, but don't change too much this far into the game.

Thanks for letting me rant and by the way, I love your web site. :)

Agreed. Possibly a hint as to the major fixes would be a nice addition before releasing a patch. That way, players can halt investing in certain skills if they so desire. However, Blizzard tends to stick to their shroud of mystery.

I would like to have the Swat gear!

I visited your site today and saw the picture of that Swat gear Kevlar vest and so. I looked the whole Site where to get it from but I couldn?t find anything about it So i wanted to ask where ican get it from.

Hate to break it to you, but the S.W.A.T. gear was an edited image. It does not exist and will probably never exist, unless Sierra buys out Blizzard.
