By
now, most of those who were really looking for the Lord
of Destruction have received their copies , and are
enjoying it a helluva lot
(except for those in the Land Down Under who are slated
to get theirs on the 11th - don't ask).
Nonetheless, we have a large pile of mail sent in concerning
Patch 1.08 - which was released prior to the expansion.
Now keep in mind that patch 1.09 will be on the way,
so don't sit in a corner and bawl if a certain bug has
you tossing and turning at night (no guarantees however!).
Next Week's Topic Will Be:
The inevitable topic: What
were your initial and/or overall reactions to the Lord
of Destruction expansion to Diablo II. Any surprises?
Can't get enough of it? Love the new mercenaries? Tell
us!
I also encourage any and all your comments on anything
Diablo-related. The Mailbag is here for you!
Now onto the feedback from last
week's topic in which we talked about patch 1.08 and
how you guys dealt with it. Surprisingly all feedback
contained herein relates to the topic if even a bit
- so that means no direct questions were made, but rather
opinions, opinions, and more opinions - so I'll keep
comments to a minimum:

Subject: My Post patch compensation
My big compensation is simple...I'll
delete most of them.(the cookies don't cut it anymore!)
I am in the process of rebuilding all my characters,
which isn't that hard because I was messing around with
buids for the X-pack and for fun because the old cookies
where stale!
Currently I have a clvl 59.7 hybrid paladin that I have
played almost exclusivly since the patch release. (
I played all the other classes the first night for a
couple hours each ) My hybrid version uses zeal/fanat
and vengance to deal with the PI's, I do use conviction
a little but only to flash monsters. (I don't run around
with it on) Its a nice build, I use zeal for my main
attack most of the time but will switch to vengance
when in larger games or facing PI's or something big
and nasty. It has some drawbacks but IMO its a solid
build for the new world order!

Subject: Character Compensation
Hey PlanetDiablo pplz! [Howdy]
I'm really going to be trying out the two new characters
more than using the others. I've heard good things about
the Assassian but I really want to try out the Druid.
Shapeshifting look cool and that you can take the form
of a Werewolf or Werebear (I like wolves better though),
and that he can summon things WITHOUT corpses (although
I'm sad that you can't summon bears till level 30),
and that he can use elemental spells. It looks like
the Druid is a non-corpse NecroSorc hybrid. The Assassian
looks worth while playing since she has the ability
to wield 2 claw class weapons (sort of like the barbarian
wield 2 1-handed weapons or 2 2-handed swords) and with
all those close range attacks and traps she can set,
she looks like the best solo character. The one thing
I want to know is why does it seem that the Amazon gets
short changed with her decoy when the Assassian can
make a double of herself that accually fights back.
Now when I get back to my origanal characters, I gonna
have to get new statigies going. I've thought of a plan
get get around the immunity to physical damage for the
Barabarians. I'm going to make sure I have some sort
of elemental damage on the weapons (thank god Blizzard
thought of adding sockets to items that don't have any
in Act 5 Quest 1 as a reward, which will make gems more
valuable in trade). My two favorite classes, the Paladin
and the Necromancer, are now more powerful, which means
we'll see more of them around now. Sure, 1 stratagy
for the Paladin was nerfed, but there are so many stratagies
that haven't been considered much. I have a paladin
that has extremly high thorns and he can just walk though
a big area off monsters and use 1-3 healing potions
(not greater or super, just healing) and he's just fine.
Well, this is long enough and i think other people are
going to want room for their e-mails. Thx for listening
all.

Subject: Trying to cope
I have a level 48 amazon and right
now, it takes forever to level. I use to be able to
use a lance with the jab skill but now I can't because
the speed of jab was taken away. I now go through using
throwing spears and a shield. i must say that i am disappointed
about not being able to use my lance anymore. There's
nothing i can do about it though. It is now extremely
hard to actually cause damage but jab still comes in
handy. I do think that blizzard should rethink some
things in the next patch.

Subject: Spearazons and Realm-Only Items
* The new patch pretty much killed
off the Spearazon subclass IMO .A Jab skill that is
modified by weaponspeed isn't very fun.. I think the
skill description use the word "rapid", well it's not
very "rapid" anymore.. and Spearazons have never had
that much of a staying power, meaning lots of deaths..
and now they've crippled them even more. No wonder most
Amazons use Bows... Well, I was going to try out the
Sorceress anyway.
* Realm-Only items is not a good idea. Not everybody
have cheap and fast internet access and those can't
play on Battle.net is screwed over if some items is
only available on the realms. As much as I'd love to
play on Battle.net, It's just not possible.. this is
something Blizzard should think about.

Subject: The New Patch...
Allow me to tell you why the new
patch is lame.
Its really rather simple.
I have a lvl 50 sorceress on US WEST. I wanted to be
a sorc cause they seemed different and I remember my
sorc's glory days in D1. Well right off the bat I would
have said it was more difficult for a sorceress then
certain other characters.
Don't believe me?
-The Barbarian's main area is STRENGTH.
-ITEMS etc require STRENGTH and DEXTERITY (not energy)
to be equipped.
-The sorceress' main area is ENERGY.
-The sorceress still needs points in both strength and
energy to succeed as a character...where as the barbarian
really doesn't. He just needs em in strength.
Anyways that is all beside the point. Back to what I
was saying, the only way I found my sorc could really
survive was focus on one skill tree and obviously warmth,
because all those nifty spells required a lot of mana
and had to be cast quickly to be effective, this requiring
a lot of mana which quikcly regenerated. Blizzard decided
in this latest patch to change a great many things,
including the sorceress' skill tree and casting times.
...That basically makes my character obsolete. I designed
my character over the past months for a game that no
longer exists. It is now literally impossible for me
make a dent in my mana, and the casting delays are absurd,
...well you all know this. I don't want to repeat what
everyone else has said 800 times.
Basically, Blizzard change the sorc's skill tree. There
is one really viable and really cool solution imo to
this problem. Blizzard in this last patch changed our
skill tree, so why not automatically reset it? And then
be able to give the amount of points we had in this
new tree...so that our characters wouldn't become obsolete.
This may seem absurd but imo, if Blizzard actually cared
about its gamers it would do this. Its a really SIMPLE
solution to a problem they created.

Subject: this patch rox
Well with all the post patch frustration,
lets look at why Blizzard might have done all this.
It is a good taste of what the expansion will be like.
And I have no idea what the complaining is about, last
time I checked the realms were multiplayer (that means
more than one person, for all you non-english folks).
I for one find money easier get, gems are plentiful,
gambling takes less time, and playing with other people
(this is where the "multiplayer" comes in) is much more
beneficial than in previous patches.
Now I know what your thinking: Waaaah, I can't beat
up a little monster by myself, WAAAAAH! Well I, for
one, admire the addition of immunities. The game now
takes skill (yes, skill) and teamwork (yes, teamwork)
in the harder difficulties. Yes ladies and gentlemen,
I believe that Blizzard is trying to tell us that running
around playing MachoMan isn't going to cut it in the
Expansion. If you can't handle playing in parties, play
single player for crying out loud. And we are always
looking for more realistic computer games, if a bunch
of warriors were really going to try to kill the Lord
of the Underworld, do you think they would run at him
one by one?
