Let's talk about patches!

As promised, we bring you this first response edition of the Planet Diablo Mailbag. We know you've been itching to take a gander at all the wacky (ok, not all the feedback is wacky!) comments that we here at Planet Diablo get.

Our Next Juicy Topic Will Be:

How friendly do you find other players on Battle.Net to be? How well do they conduct their behavior? Do you consider the atmosphere to be helpful? Annoying? Self-serving? Share your experience!

As always, please send all feedback on this topic or any other to feedback@planetdiablo.com.

Now on to the feedback on last week's topic in which we asked what your thoughts were on the Diablo II 1.03 patch; here's what you guys had to say:

Subject: patch 1.03

Ok for starters I have had alot of problems with this game. I have a Voodoo 3 3000. So for a while I couldn't even get this to run. Then voodoo came out with their patch, and then I could play the game. By that time 1.02 patch was out. So I used that, and played the game and it ran great. Then 1.03 came out and it still runs great. However the colors are messed up. Not majorly, but definitely noticable. So I think they need to work on figuring this out. But all in all great game.

"I have had alot of problems"--hmm, seems as though your problems are restricted to the patch and your video card...

Better than ever (come again?) this patch is f***ed. the reason is when ya try to create a game ya countdown to 1 then... get stuck no matter what ya wait it wont create. We had hard time creatin a game now we cant play at all... thx blizzard, i think am gonna make a petition for a reimb

The flames engulf me. Ok, ok, the queue thing is kinda disheartening, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it is unplayable at all. Oh, and as for that reimbursement: good luck.

are you hearing a lot of complaints about the new patch? cuz everyone on battlenet is bitching about it, it REALLY sucks. we cant join any games

Oh, no. Every email we get regarding the patch expresses the sender's deep gratitude for Blizzard.

Subject: The Patch

This isn't official or anything, but you can check it out for yourself. I'm not sure if this is intentional, but to be blunt, Blizzard done f***ed up. With necromancers, they tweaked corpse explosion (Obviously; my radius was 4.0 yards when I left, when I came back, it was something like 2.7), so, this may just be me, it does less damage and the levels have lower radii. This is quite annoying in and inside of itself; I can't imagine what level 1 of it is like, because at whatever the level 2 radius is, it's near worthless. And, there is at least one bug. At level 3, corpse explode's radius is 3.3 yards with 17 mana for a cast. At level 4, corpse explode's radius is 3.3 yards with 18 mana. Damage does not improve. If this was the intent, then if/when Blizzard says it was, my necromancer is going buh-bye, because they just ruined one of the only two useful direct-damage spells necros have.

Yes, many people have obviously discovered the weakened areas as well, but I wouldn't get rid of your formerly-beloved Necromancer that quick. He is still very useful, and by what I've heard, the other classes were kept at bay also. So...here's the cheesy reassurance line: It was all for the better.

I think the patch was good, ok I'm going to hear a lot of sh*t from people playing the necromancer and how their lovely Corpse Explosion spell is ruined. I'm playing the necromancer myself and has focused most of my skills (I've put one point into Amplify damage and another one in Iron Maiden) on summoning. The patch clearly made the revive spell a lot worse. But I'm not upset because of it. I mean, the game is supposed to be more difficult as you advance in the game. With the original rules it's the opposite, it's getting easier. The necromancer simply gets too good, and that's not something I like. I prefer some challenge.

Now here's an optimistic man folks! Unfortunately, the majority wasn't as forgiving...

Subject: Charged Bolt?

Hi PlanetDiablo,

Congratulation on your beautiful web page, it's my favorite for information on Diablo II. Let's go right trough the goal of this E-Mail [thank you sir!]. The patch 1.03 hehehehe [it's that hilarious isn't it?]. Well a must say that everything is all right with it, except one tiny detail that have forced me to not install it. The spell Charged Bolt of the Sorceress, with the patch 1.02 the bolt started right at the foot of the sorceress. And now I have noticed that they start maybe 8 yards farther. I know that if I don't install 1.03 I will not have the chance to play on B.Net, well I never play on B.Net too much lag, I prefer to play in LAN. Maybe the spell have all the properties of the latter one, but really don't like it anymore.

You just solved your own problem there buddy. By the way, can I borrow that special Diablo yardstick of yours?
