Bust out the bag--wait, the purse.

Well, this week was pretty slow, and as such, we ended up with a Mailpurse, instead of the traditional sack. Anyway...

Next Week's Topic Will Be:

After Blizzard's recent update to their running Expansion Set FAQ section, what do you think of the expansion now? Have any specific gripes for them? Praises? Both?

Send us your thoughts!

Now on to the feedback on last week's topic in which we asked
you to share your experiences when dueling. Here's what you guys had to say:

Subject: Duel Story

Hi.

Noticed you're looking for stories of duels. Well last night on open Bnet I was unwittingly involved in a duel, the story follows:

I have a level 69 open Sorcess, fully legit, but since becoming a baroness I'be been hopping onto open Bnet games to grab exp.

This was not the first time that someone had tried to PK me. Their first mistake was trying it on a sorcy (you'll see why later), and their second, most fatal mistake, was not planning it properly beforehand. Anyway I joined a hell game, act4, there were three players, 1 barbar and 2 necros. No prefixes to their names, no indication that they are a bunch of twits, in fact they were fightning izual as I joined, so I went out and helped em finish him off. They were chatting, being all friendly blah blah, but all round lvl50, so I seriously doubt their characters were hacked.

We went back to town, and I was gambling with jamella, when some dude "mistakenly takes the waypoint" to plains of despair, so he runs back to town on foot (the barbar), and since none of them "have the city of the damned waypoint" how about we just walk out again? I was cool with that, so I follow one of the necros down the stairs from pandemonium fortress. At this stage he had 6 revives.....4 doom knights and 2 finger mages. Next thing I know the two others have declared hostility against me in town, and necro #1 stops at the bottom of the stairs, effectively blocking me, but also keeping me on the fringe of town, you know where u can't attack anything until u pass a specific point on the stairs. Problem is necro #2 in town who has declared hostility, is blocking my escape from the top of the stairs even if he is not able to cast anything. In the meantime I suspect the barbar had taken the city of the damned waypoint and was motoring back to join the fray at the bottom as well.

I started reaching for escape to quit the game, but then I noticed that blocker necro boy #1 had made one fatal mistake, two of his revives can fly (the finger mages), which means once they strafed off they were not blocking my sorcy any longer, and she could move down *just* far enough to leave town, so to speak. Course I teleported over everyone's head and proceeded to cast frozen orb back up the stairs. Necro #2 (the hostile one) made the mistake of leading most of his revives down the stairs (u can't really control them, so he could not make them go down first), and once he realised I was nailing him up he panicked, but he could not run back into town cos his doom knights were blocking HIM.

He also made the mistake of *just* leaving town, and it must have been a bitter pill to swallow cos he died within sight of the gate, almost literally. meanwhile barbar boy starts whirlwinding from across the screen, musta run like a maniac, and knowing u can't heal while in whirlwind lock, I cast 8 orbs at him, he stopped whirling and died :). Meanwhile blocker necro #1 who was not hostile, starts trying to explain that they were joking (why are people always joking about PK's?). I went back to town via a portal, and when he got back I declared hostility against HIM as well, in fact I let the others retrieve their corpses and then suggested I take them all on at once. By this time the outer steppes were cleared of monsters, so the necros would not have had any revives, and the sorcy can out-teleport their bone spirits, and I think they then realised it was not a good idea, so they all left in disgrace.

It's one thing to try PK someone but to me that seemed a really half-arsed way to do it :)

Of course it is! Obviously guerilla tactics would have been the route to go, eh General MacArthur?

Dueling over all in diablo is a big disappointment, with my level 72 sorc I have dueled threw out the development of my char. In games where the room is a specific dueling room I have generally, along with most ppl, had a good time. The exceptions is that I have seen ppl gleefully rob others while re-equipping and mock the poor guy about it. Of notable irritation is the stupid necro campers that sit by the entrance while every one else duels step out shoot a couple of bone spirits and step back in to safety. How this can be fun I don't know. I also feel bad for the paladin as I have never seen a paladin do good in a duel, that's a shame, I also rarely see amazons do good but that is a bit odd since I know they can. My bro's amazon has guided missiles which are very useful, do significant damage bonuses and generally tear up people much more effectively then bone spirit does.

On the other hand I have also seen people enter exp. games for the sole purpose of looking to fight. These people have killed me and my teammates, often taking down all of us, while we are fighting a horde of monsters and didn't notice the approaching @ss****. Of particular annoyance is those idiots that come and insult every one and ask for a duel, then you go to duel them and every one else is there also. Then they start to bitch about it being 5on1 but what can they expect? They where such an ass that every one wants to kill them at once! Often times if they loose the will

A. Run to town via running or a tp.
B. Leave and rejoin the game.
C. Spam for 5mins about what cowards we are and how we all suck.
D. Go hostile and un hostile over and over and over and over to annoy everyone.

I also don't like how there is only 1 viable skill for dueling for the 4 classes, Sorc-Orb, Barb-WW, Necro-BS (bs as in bonespirit! not bs! [The latter! The latter!]), Amazon-guided arrows, Pally-err pally = dead.

Final thoughts [Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!], I like dueling and I often join a dueling game but often as not my duels take place with ppl who enter a peaceful game because they listened to too much limp bizkit.

Yes, you make some valid points. But thou hast dubbed Limp Bizkit worthless. This is misled. I mean, who doesn't like to listen to pointless, pre-pubescent crapola? Come on now, this is America...

In reality, Limp Bizkit stands for Larry's Impromptu Business Kit--a handy utility already aiding thousands in achieving their goal of financial success via subliminal messages. Yes, you have to play the "music" backwards.

I personally don't like dueling. Infact I have a SEVERE hatred of people who are one minute a member of a party and the next go hostile. This happend the other night when I was adventuring with a 25 level sorceress and 59 level barbarian. I myself am a 61 level sorceress. This 22 level necromencer joined the party and after a few minutes went hostile and killed the 25 level sorceress. This set of a major spark. I whipped around and faced his skeleton mage army and mowed them down like grass. What sucked was the necro made it to town and I was outside waiting to finish his hide off. The barbarian wasn't to happy either since the killed sorceress was a lady friend of his.

The second beef I have is when i was in act 2. A hacked sorceress was in the game and in our party. I went out to gather some mana from the local monsters and when my back was to her she went hostile. Several teleports later a frustrated hacker was SOL since I had wandered around the map and gathered a huge following of monsters between him and me and after he killed them all and got to me I had crossed back into town. :)

Two things I'd like to see in the next diablo 2 patch. 1> A switch on making a game server where you can prevent people from going hostile to each other and 2> goosing [Ahem?] up the lightning damage on the sorceress. This 1-100 or whatever crap has to go since every other classes lightning doesn't always have a minimum of 1. You think that since someone spent their life mastering the elements they'd do better in damage. :)

People just don't respect other peoples wishes to be left alone and it really SUX!

'Tis true. Having the option of making a game duel-free is tempting.

End of the topic-related mail already? Alas, it is...
