Mod of the Week

You ever get that not so fresh feeling?

   New Dawn X By 54X

Sometimes a game comes along that tells such a beautiful story, and is so immersive that people step back and say, "Whoa, that was pretty cool." Fortunately or unfortunately for Diablo fans, depending on your perspective, the Diablo series has always been less about plot and more about hacking things to itty bitty pieces. That in itself makes me feel kind of bad as the rewritten story for New Dawn will most likely be overlooked in favor of the mindless hacking that Diablo II embodies. And mindless hacking abound! New Dawn takes the smash and bash to a new level, 151 new levels, to be precise, await your characters, because you can now take them up to the lofty height of level 250. This huge experience cap isn't the only change however; oodles of new class-specific items and skill changes also lurk around.

This new experience cap is one of the coolest, and most flawed features of New Dawn; it's nice, but isn't all cake and ice cream. With two hundred and fifty skill points, you can damn near max out a character, and that tends to take out all of the tough leveling decisions that were previously necessary. It also makes the removal of prerequisites pretty worthless, as points can be dropped into low level skills with impunity. This makes skill saving a joke. But that isn't to say advancing to level 250 isn't fun. I'm level 22, and I just beat Blood Raven, with maxed out Venom, as the horde falls before my might, Muhahahahahahahahaha! *HACK* Sorry.

Props must be given to 54x for his effort on this mod. It is caked in new graphics, a new story, cool new class-specific items, revamped skills, new cube recipes and unique items. Bah, screw it, I can't even list all of the things this mod changes and enhances; go download it! If any mod is worth taking a short (very short) break from Hell on Earth II, New Dawn is it. Even though that useless bastard 54x is always making fun of my caps lock typing (Can't a fellah get no love?) and refused to implement monkeys, which are now a staple feature in modding, you should still download his mod.

Highs: Fun, level 250 baby! My recommendation
Lows: Level 250 baby! No monkeys. Can't a fellah get no love? The skill tree looks pretty weird.

   Strategy

Skills:

  • Don't be shy baby: Drop points into whatever the hell you want, you've got enough of them. *sigh* if only the skills could go 30 - 40 deep instead of 20, then I wouldn't feel so empty when I've got nothing important to spend my levels on. Damn you Blizzard! Can't a fellah get no love?

If you like nachos, beer, pretzels, and women, then go to college, and participate in the drinking games that so permeate college. But if you aren't into the ladies or the liquor and YOU know who YOU are, then New Dawn is the mod for you.
