Mod of the Week

The only thing that no mod has changed so far. The little bastard gets his due, every single time.

The Many Mods to Play (By: The guys who don't get much sleep)

This week, rather than spotlighting a single mod, I've decided to recap the great mods that are out right now. While I wait for new and exiting things to happen with new mods, many of the older Mods of the Week have been updated and improved upon. This week, I'd like to recap the changes that have recently been visited on three of them, Hell On Earth (II),Eastern Sun, and Ancestral Recall.

Hell on Earth: I can't say enough good things about this mod; my homies Goldark and Selenia have managed to make a great, deep, and most of all fun mod. With the newest version, 2.5, new skills have been added for the Necromancer and Druid, resulting in a near total revision of their skill trees. Not to mention the myriad new cube recipes that have worked their way into the mod. The new features have turned Hell on Earth from a good mod, to a great mod.

Eastern Sun: What can I say? ES was the first mod I'd played, and still holds sway as one of my favorites. With more socketable item types, bitchin' new uniques, and a healthy challenge, there is absolutely nothing not to like about ES. Add to that the latest update, which includes brand spanking new runes and rune words, and you've got yourself the rebirth of a legend. There's more honey sugar coming in the form of crafting scrolls (Remember that great idea that Blizzard was too damn lazy to implement? It's here.). Welcome back Cell, old boy, and if you're reading this, get your ass to work. Anyone even remotely interested in mods should grab what I consider one of the "daddies" of them all Eastern Sun

Ancestral Recall: Teknokyo, in a word, is "the man." He seemingly laughs at the word "hardcoded," and proceeds to edit the living hell out of things Blizzard probably never meant to be edited. Everything from new skill damage types, to a massive Crypt section sets this mod apart. It even comes in two flavors, one with a massive amount of new features, and one that retains full Lord of Destruction character compatibility. Teknokyo has also implemented a massive number of new crafted item recipes, everything from permanent stat changes to crafted charms. Give Ancestral Recall a try, I promise you won't be disappointed.

Highs: They're all good man.
Lows: Perfect Cell took away my op in #easternsun, can't a fellah get no love?

   Strategy

Be chatty:

  • Chill with us: Come to chat, post on The Phrozenkeep's forums; get involved with the mod community! They're all neat dudes, and if you've ever got a question, the people on the forums are the people to talk to. If you've got mIRC, you can chat with us on irc.gamesnet.net in #planetdiablo, #easternsun, or #hoe_d2.

Back it up:

  • Not your ass, your saves!: Mods have a tendency to cause characters to be LoD incompatible; just in case, back up all your saved games somewhere and label your mod characters. For instance, I've got ES-RedDeath, HoE-RedDeath (yes, I know.), And AR-RedDeath; it helps.

The apes will rule. You will see.
