State of the Forums

Moderator: Madanark

The week's best daily topics

  • Wednesday: I missed it yesterday but the parody of "the Gambler" by Xisor gets my vote.

  • Thursday: Apocalipsus reminds those who never have read Reader's Digest that laughter is the best medicine.

  • Friday: Snikda points out this.

  • Saturday: Thanks to Jazzcat for her psychoanalysis of Apocalipsus. She points out, in a few words, what Hammerman and other mathematicians hate explaining on these forums so often. Nothing is wrong with Mephisto, by the way.

  • Sunday: I guess RoboJoe is happy. Do you know why? Read his explanation. Remember that we are playing a game and it should be fun. I realize that it can be frustrating not to achieve certain goals but it is good to see people enjoying the game.

  • Monday: Darn that cow king. He is everywhere. How can't I kill him? Thanks to Klink for the education.

  • Tuesday: Trash talking is a problem. It is not, however, the only inconsideration. See what Ajay has to say.

Hear ye, hear ye!

I, Stomper, also referred to as the 3rd Rider of the Apocalypse (he who rides the black horse), member of the hallowed team of moderators at PlanetDiablo, do hereby dedicate this, my 1000th forum post, to the State of the Forums and to my many, many devoted followers here at Evil's New Home.

Not only have I reached a milepost of sorts here in the forums, I have reached it with what I hope has been a model approach, one that is virtually free of spam. Granted, there may have been one or two occasions where my posts were subject to skepticism, but I truly hope that what posts I have contributed have been meaningful to their respected threads.

"Quit blathering Stomper. Get to the point! We'd like to get back to the forums before you bore us to death!"

Who said that?! I will crush you beneath my... Uh, I mean...

As I was about to say, in honor of my milepost achievement, I am announcing the start of the PDF Scavenger Hunt! (Pauses for shouts of excitement; frowns at the lack of any. Note: For those who are slow of mind, PDF is an abbreviation for PlanetDiablo Forums.)

There will be various "prizes" awarded to the first five members who successfully complete the PDF Scavenger Hunt and provide "proof" of completion. You will be given various objectives, clues, and hints from the moderators in our posts on the forums and in the SoTF addresses. Please do not PM (private message) us for these clues and hints. I will be too busy plotting and carrying out the domination of... *cough*, I mean, moderating the forums to be bombarded by the frivolous requests for hints by our subjects members.

There will be a total of 25 items that will need to be gathered on the web. (Screenshots, direct links, or correct answers for proof.)

To get things going: Here is the first item that will need to be gathered. The rest will be doled out in our posts and SoTF addresses at random. So look sharp and keep an eye out, because you will never know when or where we will release the knowledge of the items or clues as to where they can be found.

Item #1: When was my (Stomper's) first post at PlanetDiablo and what was my signature? (No screenshot or link needed; just the correct answer.)

Rules: There are none!

Entry Submissions: After accumulating all 25 items/answers, private message me with your answers. I will review them and respond to let you know if you have any wrong. Do not send partials. All 25 items must be present and/or answered. I will announce the five winners as they occur in the SoTF. Please do not bombard me with questions at this address.

The list of prizes will be announced in upcoming SoTF addresses. Good luck, and let the games begin!

On a side note -- Stomper's Tip of the Week:

Read all moderator posts from this date forward. Pay special attention to things that are unseen.

On a further side note -- Congratulations to my partner in crime, Madanark, the wise and unmerciful, for also achieving the 1000th post mark! Three cheers and drinks all around!

So you're going through the forums and there just isn't much that you feel like replying to, but you're bored and want to read or do something.

There is always the humor thread. I've had a few good chuckles from some of these jokes. After picking yourself off the floor, why not add some?

So now you've had a good laugh and are looking for something else. Where to next? You could always come by the newly invigorated PDChat, where a number of our members like to hang out now. It's a safe bet you will run into RoboJoe and Dj, as they always seem to be there. You might meet the man with a thousand name changes, otherwise known as Bassist. Shockwav might be there, though you'll have to draw him out; he can be pretty quiet sometimes. Other PDF members I've run into include Hammerman, 7X, and Pyro. If you're lucky you might even run into me, though you will have to forgive me as I don't type all that fast, but I try!

For those who like to wrap their heads around the mathematical aspects of the game, the thread "Drop chance" would be an interesting read. Hammerman (who always happens to be in these threads) and ALnitak67 are discussing some of the drop chances and statistics. Don't be too intimidated by all of it; statistics can be one of the more interesting portions of math (and it is a nice thing to have for those going into game design, as apparent in all the calculations Blizzard has used).

Now to the scavenger hunt...

Item #2: The game DOOM has made an everlasting impact. What inspired the name "DOOM"?

What a busy week on the PlanetDiablo Forums! The last couple of weeks we have seen a large increase in activity, here on PlanetDiablo. I have to credit some of it to the release of Dungeon Siege; basically, it is the first true "Hack 'n' Slash" game since Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. Players, after experiencing first-hand or reading about Dungeon Siege, are firing up their old Diablo characters and giving it another run. Some, during this process, are checking out the latest builds and strategies.

I ran across a topic that explains a great deal about playing the Assassin in PvP, a strategy guide featured on PlanetDiablo itself. Thanks to clayfu for posting this link from our friends over at a certain community fan site.

A new topic has been started called "Spam, what does it mean for you?" in our Off Topic Forum. I look forward to seeing what sort of input some of our long time members and new members have on the subject. The results of this topic and some quotes will appear in next week's addition of the State of the Forums address. You can check out the topic and add your thoughts.

Also, it's that time of year again, and the NHL play-offs are in full swing. Its still early in the first round so weigh in and let us know what you think? Can anybody stop the Redwings this year? Will you be the first to predict that Cinderella story? Check out the NHL playoffs thread.
