I have been playing hardcore almost exclusively lately. There are many reasons to play hardcore, as Hank_Scorpio has pointed out in the past. Stomper is a very smart guy and has given advice on how to play hardcore in general if you are a newbie (Barbarian and Druid advice) as well as if you want to be a Necromancer, his favorite I think.
Playing hardcore is a rush, is harder but as my obituaries points out can be frustrating. In particular I created the obituaries to "glorify" my first fallen and to hope others would do the same. I encourage all who lose "significant others" (read over 15 level there) to share with others. While I began the obituary to praise the dead, I now realize it also reminds us of the most hated Diablo feature: Player Killers. I do so wish they would mind their own petty existence.
There is good advice above by Stomper in his newbie hardcore topic to help avoid their disruptive behavior. I allude in the obituary for my second character loss that the key to defusing them is to remove their fuel, players. I believe that henceforth I will always leave the game upon being hostiled (unless I just opened a chest and saw a gold bow). I really hope Blizzard allows in the next upgrade (I imagine there will be one) for players to deactivate their maniacal behavior. A button would suffice saying and instituting "never dueling".
Read what some have to say about how poorly PKers suck. Is it that they suck well or poorly? Well anyway, read this. Here is a rumor about the patch.
Finally, in the longest thread of late with PKers (Player Killers) in the title, Aryx argues that PKers are entitled to have fun even at the expense of others disappointment. He makes a reasonable argument even though he will be a criminal, one day.
Seeing as I spend the most time on the forums at the moment than any other mod, I really should get my act together and write one of these State of the Forum things a bit more often. Ah well, such is the price I must pay for my near-godly powers.
In a graphic demonstration of how the mighty can fall, the winner of the Favourite Moderator poll (with a staggering 52% of the votes - in your faces, other mods!) found himself the target of many a disgruntled forum-goer in Gogeta's Things I have noticed topic. Not being one to shy away from confrontation/criticism, I invite any forum-goer to express their opinions of how terribly I'm doing my job without fear of retribution. PM me if ever you feel I'm getting that little bit too power crazed.
World Cup fever has gripped a lot of people these past few weeks. Catch up on the latest predictions of results in DevilCain's topic. Or, if your team just went bombing out of the tournament at the hands of the South Korean team, you may be interested in venting your frustrations in Disruptor's aptly titled topic, Italy Lost.
I suppose I should mention Hockey here, just to keep Hank__Scorpio and his fellow madmen happy. Feel free to discuss Lord Stanley's hideous trophy, then rush back to watching the World Cup again! (Os, please direct all death threats to me via private message)
And finally, why not help me out, and earn yourself a fabulous prize! I'm looking for a great European holiday destination, so all you potential travel agents, Sell Your Country and I could grace your recommended destination with my presence!
