State of the Forums

Moderator: Madanark

Two weeks ago, I started a Paladin, and he is [clvl] 80 now. I read many things before starting, some of which I cited in SotF Edition #2. I want to recognize, as I did before, Savior G and NothingSacred for their forum guidance. I have successfully solo-killed all the bosses. I have been lucky to get the unique templar coat, Guardian Angel, so this Paladin has 90 to all resistances in Hell. I took a socketed shield that had Resist All +27 and added 3 perfect diamonds, so that alone is +84% to all resistances, with gloves, rings, and an amulet for the rest. I based this character on the Avenger Guide (linked above). I have maxed Fanaticism and eventually will do so for Conviction, Vengeance, and Holy Shield. I erred by thinking that Thorns was great, but gave it up before it was too late. Yes, some swear by it, but I find it too hard in crowds. If I could use Thorns and Defiance simultaneously, perhaps. Anyway, enough about that; let's look at some of this week's posts that address the Paladin.

  • Kurast Shield: I am beginning to believe that since the Paladin can use Holy Shield, very high resistance levels through several PDs (perfect diamonds) is the way to go. This thread does not change that and I believe the Herald of Zakarum the best Paladin shield as discussed here.
  • A query about maxing auras: In a nutshell, it is good (not bad as asked) to max Conviction and Fanaticism.
  • A resurfaced topic about starting a Paladin has a few good points but never answers the query of the author which is really skill point distribution. That is best answered here.
  • Backlash of the FOHadin: The author admits he is insane. ^_^ See this twink class instead, even though it's an older post.
  • The saving grace of this character: I happen to agree.
  • A newbie post is my favorite thread this week. It shows nice defense of the forum's goal which is to make new and old players welcome.

I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving! I was fortunate to visit with family and take on the horrible task of post-Thanksgiving leftovers! Mmmm... leftovers! Heh, heh.

I was unable to get online for much of the week so I am really out of touch with the up and up. However, I could use some advice from our readers with my new barbarian. Please check out this Forum thread and give me some advice: A Reduction Barb!

Hopefully a cool new twist to an underated attribute. No Pain?

News!

Post your opinions about the Trade Hack.

Ancestral Recall released a statement that they are going to create an extension of Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction and great a new layer which contains new monsters and new animations. If you are a big fan of Ancestral Recall like I am, you know that Teknokyo's work is very good; this is going to be a great mod.

Blizzard still hasn't released information on when Patch 1.09c standalone versions will be available for Windows. Speaking of the operating system, I noticed that a lot of people are having trouble with Windows XP; it doesn't work with a lot of parts or drivers so you just have to make sure before you install.

Strategies

My Amazon is level 81! Started around the beginning of October, I haven't really touched her in November, but she is a Bowazon. This is my effect strategy for any Bowazon:

    Skills:
  • Passive and Magic Skills
  • Critical Strike: 20
  • Penetrate: 1
  • Pierce: 1
  • Inner Site: 1
  • Slow Missle: 1
  • Decoy: 1
  • Valkyrie: 20
  • Dodge: 1
  • Avoid: 1
  • Evade: 1
  • Bow and Crossbow Skills
  • Magic Arrow: 1
  • Cold Arrow: 1
  • Multi-Shot: 1
  • Guided Arrow: 20
  • Strafe: 20

    For Stat Points:
  • Strength: Ideal Str is about 135-140. You want to get around this much Str to use the Windforce.
  • Dexterity: Ideal Dex is about 400-500. Helps with Attack Rating and the Damage of your arrow.
  • Vitality: Ideal Vit is from base - 50. Not too much hear, you just want some Vit just incase you do get hit, that extra life helps you out.
  • Energy: Ideal Eng is the base Eng. Adding points into Energy is a big waste of Stat Points because there isn't really lots of mana used on the Bowazon, so it is great if you have some mana leech on.
